mic Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 I've never been to Cardic Hill on the Meramec, but from everything I've read I think this would help. I would also like to see some of this done on the section between the springs and the big feeder creek on the left (going downstream). Either way... a great stream story. Enjoy.
mic Posted August 20, 2013 Author Posted August 20, 2013 Second thought, the lower section of Zone 3 at Bennett could really used some of this work. Straight, shallow, and full of weeds. So much useless creek inside the park.
Jerry Rapp Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 useless reach of river? Lots of little critters live in that reach. How dare you destroy that habitat.
Flysmallie Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Watch the video Jerry. The stream restoration helps the critters too.
Flysmallie Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Yes it is, but when we build dams we kind of screw that all up. So we should take the steps to correct it.
Al Agnew Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 A lot of that would definitely work in a place like Bennett. Most of it wouldn't work on the trout section of the Meramec. Floods would wipe most of that work out.
ozark trout fisher Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 I used to advocate this kind of thing on Little Piney, which in some stretches is in truly desperate need of exactly what they were doing in this video. But sadly, there's no way any structure is surviving the floods on that thing. Unhealthy watersheds tend to flood more often and more severely-and those floods make it hard to impossible to do the kinds of things that would potentially help. It's a vicious cycle, but I don't have the answer.
Quillback Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 They did quite a bit on the White below Beaver dam a few years ago. Floods really blew it out.
