Ham Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 I'm done FOREVER with Shimano spinning reels over the binding issue. They may have fixed it. I'll NEVER know. I use a mix of Diawas, Quantums, and some US Reels (hands down worst drag system I've ever used. CRAP.) I like St Croix a bunch too. I'd look at the Rage line or the Avid line. The 6'9" MLXF or 7'2" ML Rage). Personally, I'm all good. I have two of the 6'8" GYCB Drop Shot rods. I don't even know if they are sold anymore. They do the drop shot and grub jobs. I also throw <1/4 oz lipless cranks and road runners on them. I have a couple of older 7 foot All Star rods that do a lot of applications for me. Shakey heads, finesse jigs, finesse worns on slider heads, and dragging tubes mostly. Then, I have my two old beloved Shimano Aero 6'6" ML that can do it all, but have been saved for my panfishing because they do that so very well. I did get a cople of the TFO 7 foot light action spining rods. They are mostly a dead stick. OK for white bass and with Nanofil creek smallies, but too dead for crappie or trout jig fishing. ollie Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 I say spend more money on the rod. Make it more like a 60/40 combo. I personally like the falcons only because they are great rods and they have great customer service from what I have experienced. hoglaw Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 You know my opinion on having one built, so I'll leave it at that. My only input here is absolutely under no circumstances should you buy an off the rack spinning rod with micro guides. Micro guides can be one size fits all on a bait cast rod, but the placement absolutely must be tailored to your reel spool diameter on a spinning rod.

Dude, you make the perfect ned rig rod and I will paint as many wiggle warts as necessary.
RSBreth Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Another "done with Shimano spinning reels" guy here - I'll buy Pflueger Presidents until doomsday before another Shimano spinner. Another thing - micro guides and leader knots are not (knot) compatible. If you are straight mono or fluoro or braid they're fine.

I found that out about the bucoo micro and had to return it to cabelas. They allowed me to trade it for the Lowrider. I know about shimanos binding problem. I owned 2 of the saharas back then. The new one is a totally different design and I've been pleased so far. I'm going to buy the revo this weekend.
Guest Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Oh and the micro will not like any form of floro, as it slaps the blank when casting.

MOPanfisher Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Pflueger President reel and the best St. Croix you can get for the rest of the $$, I also am done with Shimano. Last reel I bought was a Diawa, and it is a hoss, little bigger than what I normally use but for hybrids, walleye etc. it is nice.
Guest Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Really? Interesting That's why I traded the micro for a Lowrider shaky head rod.
