Feathers and Fins Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 OP, just for the record I actually look at all sources I can, I'm actually fed-up with all the parties and the lies they spew, and even less believing of the media. It is kind of like the (unemployment numbers) the Fed says 7% roughly depending on how someone farted that morning but if you look at the true facts and numbers it is someplace between 13 and 17%. They all like to throw out numbers and my above post was the best ability I could make at trying to sifter out what I was reading from many reports. Now for the record ( Bamy-phone) was sarcasm. I will say to Chief I was a military brat lived in those "hud houses aka base housing" and It was a good life and living and know many people doing it today. There is a GIANT difference between our Military personnel who know full well what they will get and the entitlement leaches. No base housing is not glamorous it is the basics and our Military does not complain nor do those areas become crime infested. OP I understand the insurance industry all to well, deal with it and them everyday. I ALSO KNOW that for the exact same Insurance my wife and I have had for the last 4 years it is going up almost 100% and ONLY one thing has changed and that is Affordable Care Act aka Obamacare! This is not a unknown it is a FACT! What still bothers me every day about it is they ( democrats including the POTUS) SAID REPEATEDLY "IT IS NOT A TAX" well the SCOTUS said it was and that is the only reason we have it as a law now! Largest tax increase in US History! Just wait till next year when everyone ( well everyone Obama hasn't exempted) finds out the out of pocket expense. Heh wth it isn't going to change no matter how much we the average Joe complain the Royalty runs the country. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
ness Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Let me see if I can list some things we can all be in agreement with: There should be better accountability for the money being spent. There are undoubtedly programs where there is waste, that have outlived their purpose, or are just flat stupid to begin with. Deficit spending has been going on for decades, but has increased greatly in recent years. Interest rates are at historic lows. If/when interest rates go up, we will spend more in interest payments per dollar borrowed. We depend on others to fund a large part of our government functions. The remainder is been funded by all of us through IOUs issued to Social Security, Medicare, etc. There's a limit to how much we can borrow, and that limit is not determined by us. No president or party is blameless for the past. There is no short or long-term plan to eliminate deficits, so we can expect debt to continue to grow. So, how'd I do? John
Justin Spencer Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Our healthcare system is ranked 37 in the world (2 above Cuba) so obviously we had to make changes. Obamacare is not the answer, but it is a start. Instead of wasting time trying to repeal this legislation, we need to put the effort in to trying to make improvements to it. http://www.upworthy.com/his-first-4-sentences-are-interesting-the-5th-blew-my-mind-and-made-me-a-little-sick-2 this is a pretty simple non-partisan explanation of what is going on with our healthcare compared to the rest of the world. Fix these problems and we'll have plenty of money for our fish hatcheries. Wayne SW/MO Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Fix these problems and we'll have plenty of money for our fish hatcheries. While I wouldn't disagree with this necessarily, I don't think the hatcheries can wait. The thread addresses closing mitigation hatcheries and I can't imagine anyone wanting to see the tailwaters become cold water wastelands in regards to sport fishing. The promise was the when the dams killed the warm water economy and the world class fishing on the White, the government would stock it with cold water fish as long as the dams stood. That's a debt, entitlement, obligation, what ever you want to call it and I don't think anyone believes there isn't some pork that can't be eliminated to meet the obligation. Old plug Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Well i do not want to argue and i think the best thing is to just wait and see where the country goes because there does not seem to be anything that will change it. Really i will tell you all what i told my daughter and her husband just last week again. If any of you have a highly marketable skill. Pack up and go overseas to work until this all comes to what I fear is going to be a nasty bloody end. My daughters company went to India they got rid if everyone but her and her husband. Now he is working everyday by computer with those people in India. He authored the financial programs for this company. Now they cant do without him. He has refused to help past this month. All he wanted was a little extra money to work on their home here in Mo. After a short while doing nothing my daughter sent her resumes out over the internet. Had some really fabulous offers from other countries. they just do not want to leave home.
Feathers and Fins Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 OP, You bring up a point I see more and more about people going abroad. It is a shame that you can go to many websites like this that have forums and see so many of our fellow countrymen and women so frustrated and uncertain of the future. Yet all of them posting out Ideas that may not be perfect but in talking can find common ground and want to fix it. The number one theme of all of them is lack of any beleif our politicians can fix it or even want to. The American people are crying inside because our problems are not to great to fix but seems hopless with more and more dependent on entitlements and those entitlements are what has lead to the destruction. People I feel would work if they could but how do you create jobs in this country when cost is better in others? Our business's are heavily taxed and so are the People some to the point they shut their doors and others to the point they find the entitlements are cheaper than going to work for their family. When I think of how much money I have to spend in gas and meals each week just for work combined with taxes on my check I sometimes wonder if I wouldnt be better off staying home. I could never do that and to think that way even makes me sick. But also makes me understand some who do it. Problem with them is now they are a burden on all the rest of us. It just doesnt seem to have an end to the cycle until entitlements are destroyed and something done about taxes. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Old plug Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 I second that. I do not think politicians ever study history. Governments come and governments go usually with a lot of bloodshed. And that is the way we are headed. My daughter did take a job right in i think it is a 4 month or something stint as a consultant. They paid a hell lot if money for it. Myself I do wish they had went aboard. It would have been tough on my wide and I but iwoukd rather see her there than here.
Al Agnew Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 We just spent the last two days driving out to Montana, and while driving we listened to the book, "This Town". It's all about the whole Washington scene, and it will make you completely sick. The incestuous relationship between politicians, lobbyists, and so-called journalists is so complete and they are so completely out of touch with the real people in this country that it would seem that the only way to fix things is to not only vote every incumbent politician out of office, but also kick every lobbyist and every media hack out at the same time. The book was written by a journalist who is a part of the thing, and has been for a number of years. His stories about the lavish parties where the lobbyists, pols, and journalists all rub shoulders continually are sickening. The facts he puts out, like the one that well over 50% of all Senators and Representatives who leave office, either voted out or not running again, move into 6 and 7 figure positions in lobbying firms in D.C. as soon as possible, make you realize that our capital is quite simply a cesspool of "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" on a massive scale. And those lobbying firms are not representing you and me, that's for sure.

Yup, the legislature was never meant to be a profession. You can't be a professional representative or senator and a peer at the same time. Of course lobbyist are only allowed for one reason, they serve the legislatures. If not for that they wouldn't be allowed unless they represented constituents. The press doesn't do a very good job of living up to the constitutional privilege, but then again the constitution never saw the government controlling the most important source, the airways. The system has become a cesspool ripe for exploitation. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Quillback Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 I'll have to put "This Town" on my reading list.
