In the archives you will find a discussion on this very same 24 inch issue. It was initiated by Murdoc. He spent quite a bit of time talking to people in the know, and found out that mdc even monitors this website from time to time. They are interested, but did nothing on the last go around. Maybe now is the time. In the meantime, tell every one you run into that there is a voluntary 24 inch limit on taney. My personal vote, would be for a 20 to 30 inch slot limit. In my most humble opinion, slot limits due more to increase the size and quality of trout in lake taneycomo. Lots of options out there, and any would be an improvement. Maybe mdc will monitor this discussion as well. Thank you "MDC" for all you do.

Great I guess I had be more honest in my reports if the MDC is monitoring this site from time to time :secret-laugh:

A slot might make it too I don’t think that it will take money besides creating legislation to get this done. I have a phone call into my local state rep; after I talk with him I shall report it back to this site. Maybe we could get Phil to start one of his polls asking what people think of either a 24”inch length limit or a slot length limit from 20”-30” for Browns. That might be a way to jump start this, I will also say that it might be a whole year or 2 be for we see this done however if we stick together and not let this issue die and letting it fall on deaf ears I know something will come about this.

I am going to have my taxidermy buddy paint a giant flathead like a brown trout and claim a big boulder dropped by MDC below taney crushed it's nose. That ought to raise some eyebrows.

Slot or upping the size minimum would both work.

It would just take a couple years to really see the results and not changing back when the catch and kill everything crowd complains How they can't keep the same fish they used to be able to.

The catch fishermen will still have as many fish as ever. The rainbow population will be the same. Chances are they did not catch a 20 inch brown to include in their limit with any regularity. Probably mostly took home 4 rainbows. I do not think that the catch and keep fishermen would suffer any reduced fishing success. Plus, like everyone else, they would have a better opportunity to catch that fish of a lifetime in the near future.

I agree laker However if they do catch a brown that would go 20 inches they would complain about How they couldn't keep it Any more.

In response to exg, I have witnessed a lifetime of improved hunting and fishing opportunities provided by our mdc.
