Flysmallie Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 This thread has gone down the path of no return. Not only am I done posting pictures of puppies, I'm not even going to read anymore. Have fun. But I like puppies. I'm done too.
1969Larson Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 Puppies better buy their own rabies shots! I'm out!
LarrySTL Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 While we were fixing the world's problems, I see the feds unclosed the Current and Jacks Forks today at least to the extent of saying you can use the rivers. Answer me this. I have been on tons of Corp campgrounds, launch ramps, etc and other than the person at the little booth from 9 to 5, I think I have seen a fed employee doing something twice. if the feds just said "you can use it if you want, but due to the shutdown, we are not providing services" why wouldnt that suffice ? Its not like the feds send people out to watch me back a boat trailer down a ramp. So they dont empty the trashcans or maybe provide more TP for a while....how does just not servicing the area cost the fed gov a dime ? Even at Corp lakes, I have seen the Water Patrol, MDC and others a lot more than I have seen feds. http://intervenehere.com
Feathers and Fins Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 Larry, truth be told they shut the parks down ( lock the bathrooms ) ( turn off the water ) and final mowing for the year at the end of the month. Basically the only winter shut down service is trash emptied and lights on at night. So nothing changes during the shutdown that wouldn't be happening in winter closure. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
SmallyWally Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 It was intended to be the centerpiece, not an eventual end point. How is it that we are the only first world nation where people go bankrupt and lose everything from $300 aspirin? A major part of this bill is the reining in of costs and dictating that 80% of premiums go to care, NOT CEO bonuses. There is a key word here......dictate. I see you follow the line that capitalism is not worthy in this country. Agree that greed is not healthy, but that is the cost of capitalism. If we did not have the private sector, and all worked for the government, things would be a lot worse across the board. Are you of the belief that the government can do a better job than the private sector? Keep the government OUT of my life is my vote. Have a great weekend. Kindness is the language the blind can see and the deaf can hear.-- Mark Twain
jdmidwest Posted October 5, 2013 Author Posted October 5, 2013 $300 aspirin don't bakrupt people, but cancer and a few other very expensive conditions sometimes DO. These are called catostrauphic events. There has always been insurance to cover this type of scenario and it is very affordable. Priorities, man. And the insurance has always been affordable, about the cost of a carton of cigarettes a week. But folks always seem to go for the cigarettes instead of health insurance..... mixermarkb Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 I don't believe things would be better without the federal government. Call me a socialist all you want, but I'm glad to be part of a United States, not just a Missourian. This shutdown is TOTALLY caused by a small group of republicans/tea party/sore losers, who are demanding everything they ran on in the last election. They can't get it into their heads that THEY LOST. The democrats have already agreed to fund the government at very close to the Ryan budget, with large cuts from where they wanted the numbers to be. The spoiled brats are seeking to overturn the signature law of the democratic party, that has been a law for 3.5 years now, that was tested by the Supreme Court. They are holding all of us hostage to do so. What happens, using this precedent, if a small number of the far left wing of the Democratic Party refuses to fund the government until their gun control demands are met? Or until their is a single payer healthcare system in place?? If the ACA is so bad, let it fail. Let the people vote in people who run to repeal it at the next election cycle. Elections are supposed to be how our system works. This is much more akin to terrorism, and the United States does not negotiate with terrorists. I hope President Obama does not give an inch, because this is a DANGEROUS moment in American history, second only to the secession. I don't care if you believe the ACA is evil, I don't care if you think the Democratic Party requires the blood sacrifice of goats by the dark of the moon to join. What this group of house members is doing is destroying the very process of the constitution they swore to uphold, and it is WRONG. The end does NOT justify the means, when the means is our very system of civics.

And yes as part of our Democracy, the Congress is allowed to disagree with the president. The true DANGER we face, is a president that thinks he's a dictator. And far as upholding the law, what about that Janet Napolitano refusing to enforce the laws against illegal immigration? Oh, I guess since she was appointed by Obama, it's OK for her to disobey the law, but not OK for ELECTED Republicans to disagree with Obamacare?
mixermarkb Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 They can disagree with the ACA all they want. It is a law, until they get the votes to repeal it. The end.
