fishinwrench Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 You pitchen dark colors inthe fall Wtench!!!!??? I rarely pich anything but a light color in the fall because of the allthe shad feeding going I really lan towards gray bucktails. I like "Ozark craw", or "cajun craw" type jig colors around here. In the Fall I like to sneak around in fairly clear shallows, pitching to anything that could hide a fish. If I can throw a rock into 10 fow then I'm not far enough back. The "majority" of fish ARE NOT where I am, but the ones that are will be located exactly where I think they are. You just have to take your time and be sneaky (no transducers ticking, no livewell pumps running, no deploying of Power Poles, and depend more on trick casting from adrift instead of constantly adjusting boat position with the TM). If you're spooking turtles and cranes further away than you can pitch then you might as well go back out and fish the windy points and brushpiles with the rest of the "hi-techs".
Old plug Posted October 6, 2013 Author Posted October 6, 2013 I understand that and really i bet. The color does not matter that much. I have a couple small coves inside mine here where it was so shallow and clear you could see can see docks shadow on the bottom that will hold some nice fish. I am sure you know those places. But I back off kind of far and cast to them. Have not done that in a few years. Shoulders bother me a lot out there and the casting shows it. Just never used dark colors.
Mitch f Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Wow Jerry, would have thought it would've taken 1 more pound..... Wrench, did you get my pm? "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Pepe Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 You have it molded over a weighted jig hook, right? The Huddleston Jig also works well rigged exposed or with buried hook. Here is a picture of it rigged. I think Mitch has a craw that looks more like what we have here in the Ozarks though. https://huddbaits.com/index.php?p=21&cat=1&prod=2
