HA HA! Did you find in eggs in that nest? Were there any fish caught, or did it take the rest of the day to pick that out?

When they're that bad, I set that rod aside for the day and after I come home, out come the scissors.

Yep. It must be done. There is a point of no return on a backlash....that there is one of them. Best one I ever saw was a friend of mine who got a little too ambitious and reached back too far and got his bait perfectly positioned suspended in the windshield cavity on the console and when he went forward the bait got hung up in the top windshield. Looked like a line grenade went off in his reel. It was HILARIOUS.

You may have a point there, I was fishing with him the day it happened. Right before I made the fateful cast, I remember him saying "look over there at that babe in the bikini!" I spent 10 minutes scanning the shore where he was pointing, saw no babes, let alone ones wearing bikinis. I thought it was due to my poor eyesight that I didn't see her, but now I'm re-thinking the entire situation.

Not my fault he's so easy to distract. :-)

Actually, I had a nasty bird's nest in one of my reels, I think on the same day as Jeff did this one. Mine was dumber, though. I had my bait on the bottom but had not turned the handle to engage the reel yet. I was messing with the depth finder, got a bite and set the hook. Ooops. Got the fish, though. Just swapped the reel out once I unhooked it. Too much of a mess to bother with until I got home.

Everyone has experienced a next to impossible to remove on the water bird nest. Thank goodness the most of us carry extra rods and/or reels in case of a professional over run and just wait until later off the water to fix... :oh-noes:
