Jerry Rapp Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 smart on the Crabs Al. I have several in "storage". Dad and Pa raved about them when talking about fishing Killarney and Bismark at night. I have a couple of the felt Mouses's also. Ding Bats? I wonder if these baits would still work?
Chief Grey Bear Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Chief I thought Strike King had stopped making the Spence Scout. I liked the two different line ties so you could fish the two different depths. Used to really produce around the weeds on Lake Catherine on the Ouchita chaini I am pretty sure they still do??? I thought I still saw the occasionally in the last few years?? bfishn Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 This thread has proven more than interesting for me, it sparked my curiousity for more. This morning my searching led to an awesome trove of "old stories", at the White River Valley Historical Quarterly; http://thelibrary.org/lochist/periodicals/wrv/index.html I've spent the day so far reading there with great interest. Here's one about a week-long WR float in 1907; http://thelibrary.org/lochist/periodicals/wrv/v6/N12/s79f.htm And the MoArk boarding at Branson; I can't dance like I used to.
bfishn Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Here's a jaw-dropper; "The Leader ( a Branson paper) reported a winter 1918-1919 export of 72,000 pounds of cleaned bass and crappie to city markets." Pretty easy for most of us to forget that a century ago, you could do near anything you pleased in regard to fishing, and by most accounts they did just that. Here's the engrossing story (long) of the battle to regulate Ozark river fishing. It's got it all, greed, intrigue, politics... http://thelibrary.org/lochist/periodicals/wrv/v31/n2/w92c.html I can't dance like I used to.
KCRIVERRAT Posted November 11, 2013 Author Posted November 11, 2013 Thanks so much for those links bfishn! Gonna have me some good reading tomorrow... HUMAN RELATIONS MANAGER @ OZARK FISHING EXPEDITIONS
Geoff Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Those maps are cool. I found my uncle's house in the 1906 map, his house is where a Ferry Crossing was. "When you do things right, people wont be sure you've done anything at all."
ness Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 That's quite a find there, bfshn. I'm gonna have to do some reading on that site. John
ColdWaterFshr Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 That's quite a find there, bfshn. I'm gonna have to do some reading on that site. Yeah that one about the week long White River float. Entry for Wed, Aug 21, 1907, substitute the name "Ness" for wherever you see "Frank Parker". ahahahaha
ness Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Ha! And substitute "bar-b-que filled cooler" where you see "suitcases". John
