Any Indian Point Crappie Yet?

Since I am new to Indian Point and Table rock does anyone know if there is any Crappie in the Indian Point area yet this winter? also can anyone tell me a good area for them? i am in the tree house area of Indian Point.

I have heard around the docks in that area is good. I concentrate on the James River Arm and have not had much luck finding them in the Indian Point area. Ive only tried over there a couple of times though and once duck season starts, that is what I spend all my time on.

Thanks Duck. I am looking forward to the News years day meet up this year to meet everyone. I have an Indian point mini report to put up i just need to write it and get the pictures loaded. I did some bank fishing before each cold front that came in and before this last one i got into some smallies. I just would like to find some crappie so i can start eating on that for awhile and put some in the freezer. I dont have any sort of fish finder yet and just a small engined boat.

Crappie tend to be a tough proposition on the lower end of Table Rock. Typical of any large highland reservoir, they tend to congregate in the feeder creeks/river arms. Your best bet would be to trailer north to the Cape Fair area of the James River or south to Long Creek/Cricket Creek. Even then, Table Rock is not a noted crappie lake. There are a few guys who catch them pretty decent but not many.

^^^----THIS. I don't even bother to waste my time on those stupid things in Table Rock unless it is in April and April only and I hit the Long Creek section of the Lake. Even then it is no guaranty.

The crappie are biteing very well on both ends of the lake. Had reports from several buddies catching some nice black crappie around dock's in the baxter to shelknob area. Lots of good crappie to be had at capefair in deep brush and channel edges.

Since he is new to Indian Point, I doubt Patrick has any idea which docks to go fish in the 10-mile stretch between Baxter and Shell Knob, or where the deep brush is along channel edges at Cape Fair.

What is a good crappie bite on Table Rock for some is a Zero bite for most of us. Yes in the Indian Point area there are some crappie. Most are under the big Commercial docks and it will take time to find them and be able to fish them without getting in trouble.

Spoke a couple of days ago to a guy that was catching them good at Cape Fair, on conservation brush and around the docks. We put in together at Aunts Creek the other day. He fished the docks in the creek for 4 hrs. and only had 1 keeper.

If I had to just strictly fish Indian Point for crappie I probably would not fish, unless I had a slip in one of the big docks and could walk that dock and fish the interior stalls.

Had Breakfast at Shell Knob with the fishing crew last week and they had been fishing the docks from Baxter to Twin Rivers and were doing very poorly. These are good Winter Crappie Fishermen. So, in reality if you get on some and catch them, that is probably that. They do not replenish well. Josh his some of his favorite locations and caught some. The next guy in is probably toast.

Couple of years ago on one of the best Crappie Winters I have seen on the Rock in 20+ years we could catch them off the deep docks up the James 1 time per dock. You pull in and catch a limit of Keeps and the next time or any later time and there were none. Go to a different dock and the same thing. Seems once you hit a dock and caught them that was IT. They would not replenish.

Not the best of news, but it is what it is on the Rock for crappie.

The bridge peirs at bridge port has produced for me with the bluff there as well. Bill said it correctly when they are hit and miss but the best i have done is in the channel edge at flat creek and mixed spots up the james along with virgin bluff being productive but it is hit and miss there. I have only been a few times before the snow but i dont start fishing for crappie untill mid january right now i am on a serious walleye bite so most of my fishing time is spent on that.
