Rolan Duffield Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Bill, Do you use your depth finders on Taney? Where and how could it be used other than keeping an eye out for shallow areas. Rolan
Bill Babler Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Bill, Do you use your depth finders on Taney? Where and how could it be used other than keeping an eye out for shallow areas. Rolan Rolan, I really do not. Those fish will not remain under the boat on the upperend. The only time they will is when they are running 4 units. Without power generation, they run from the boat like deer. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Bill Babler Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Bill, You mentioned Dan Langley. I have not heard of him for years, is he still around? 3-LiterYep, had breakfast with him this morning. Said he was fishing the Big Indian today. He most often fishes with Bryant Ward when Bryant feels well enough to go. Danny has forgotten more about the Rock than most of us will ever know. Trouble with him is "He Ain't Tellin". http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Bill Babler Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 even in the spring, unless i am up a river, i will spend time looking around for fish. many times even in the spring, especially on the lower end, bass will be suspended out over deeper water. when night fishing, this is very good information, because those bass suspended will go right over to the bank sometime during the night. you can sometimes just go bank beating and get some, but bass are school fish, and the mother load will most of the time be in one spot. learn to use your electronics and it will sure help you catch more bass, or any type of fish. bo Bo is more than on the money here. Another good point is when you find them schoolin in the morning when the sun gets high, go right back there and look to down. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Old plug Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 They suspend out over deep water in most lakes a lot. Here though it is debatable if the fish your catching near the bank at night are from the deep schools. That is because of the wall to wall boat docks. The water under docks stays a lot cooler. Also there is every manner of "cover things" under those docks. I think if those deep schools move in after dark around here I would be looking for them along a ledge someplace first. It is just the difference in environment. Sometimes around here you can catch some real pigs rising straight up from those suspended schools. I have done it with a with giant plastic worms but it is a very fleeting pattern to fish. I stopped fishing nights last year for good, but had I not I would be trying that.
Fish24/7 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 June through Feb. I won't wet a hook until I see fish on the screen...sometimes it takes an hour or so of driving around looking, sometimes you find what you are looking for right away If I have the time to look I'll deff. scan first.

Old plug Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 I have no doubt that happens Bo. But I will not be out there anymore at night. I have been fishing these lower gravois arm waters for 20 yrs. last year I went out night fishing for the first time in a couple of years and got a little disorintated by the dock light patter versus the dark areas and was on course to drive into a bluff. So I do not go out anymore at night because I do not trust my night vision any longer.

Old plug Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 MERC------ i do not really miss it. I fish about 2-3 hours a day around here in the summer in spite of all the boats. Last year my son was out for the weekend and we fished both Saturday and Sunday evening. We got pretty beat around at times but we caught if i recall correctly 6 over 4 lbs 3 over 5 and1 darn close to 6. All of them were bass that were suspending about 25 ft all day then moving up near the docks in the. Evening shade. Around here about 90% of the docks got brush in front of them. We were just casting 12 in plastic worms with tiny weights on them and letting them sink. They rarely reach the top of the brush. It as a pattern that i use a lot. But this past year it not so good. The water that weekend never stopped rolling. I usually avoid during the week. At 74 I am getting to old for that also.
