I'd like to think his phone was in a dry bag, not just a plastic bag, but whatever works. Sounds like he did everything right, and glad he's safe.

I saw several boats on trucks in Springfield on Saturday and Sunday. Conditions are great for anyone who knows how to get around on a river in cold weather.

He's lucky. I had an acquaintance who's son turned a sailboat over in 55 degree water. He manage to get to a tree and get out of the water, They found him there dead from hypothermia.

I would urge anyone in water 50 degrees or so to wear some protective gear unless you cab run out of the water. It doesn't hurt to have a safety kit either, fire starters, matches, small saw etc.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Mary and I drove down to Millstream Gardens on the St. Francis yesterday...quite a few whitewater kayakers were on the river or heading away from it. It was up enough to make for some pretty big wave trains and a couple of nasty hydraulics, but the whitewater people were equipped for it with dry suits for the most part.

Yeah, I put all my gear and my 6 year old lab on the back of mine earlier this year in persuit of ducks. Made my but pucker when she was standing up wagging her tail in 16 degree weather. Good times.
