Seth Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Oh look! It didn't take anytime at all to find another site posting details about catching smallmouth in the same spot. That sure is some secret! I guess the fishery in that area was doomed even before I posted anything related to it. You guys should probably email the website admin and request the remove that material. Don't forget to remind them about how they lack fishing etiquette, ruined the fishery, and the other important details I am forgetting. http://flyfishingwithjeff.com/fly-fishing-tips/winter-smallies-on-the-meramec-river
ozark trout fisher Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Or rather, if that's your idea of a secret, you need to find better secrets. This. FWIW, on the Maramec Spring subforum, I only have to look three topics down to find another thread on the exact same issue initated by a different member. And I've read about it a whole bunch in past years on here. My biggest confusion is why did it suddenly become a problem when it has been openly discussed a number of times up to this point?
Seth Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 This. FWIW, on the Maramec Spring subforum, I only have to look three topics down to find another thread on the exact same issue iniatated by a different member. And I've read about it a whole bunch in past years on here. My biggest confusion is why did it suddenly become a problem when it has been openly discussed a number of times up to this point? The Bennett Spring forum has more stuff about smallmouth than the Meramec forum I think. Smalliebigs gave a very detailed report with several pics down at Bennett I seen. I guess it is only a big deal if it's posted in the smallmouth section...... It definitely wasn't hard to find other information related to catching trout park smallies. If this data has been there for years, I wonder why the smallmouth haven't been cleaned out by now? My money is on the fact that very few people will actually go out and freeze their butts off to catch fish this time of year. I know a lot of fishermen and not many mess with winter fishing. They pack it up in the fall and wait till March/April. Smallmouth are probably migrating back to their regular haunts by then and not to mention that bass season is not open during that time anyways.
SpoonDog Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 For a fella who's never seen dead smallmouth on an Ozark stream, you sure know a lot about when they're harvested. I'm driving 120 on the way to work tomorrow because I'm pretty sure someone, somewhere has done it before- and that absolves me of any responsibility for my own actions. I'm sure the arresting officer will understand.
Mitch f Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Speaking of... Duane is down at the Landing raking in the crappie as I type. I'm headed down there. Going to video, post it later. This is what I did while you guys were sitting inside arguing on your computers. crappie.jpg All caught on 3/32 oz. brown and orange marabou jigs with orange heads fishing an ultra light strung with 4 lb. P-Line from a boat. Most were caught within 25 feet of the bank under bright sunny conditions in 10-15 mph winds on Lake Taneycomo in front of the landing. Cast jig to bank, let sink and slowly bounce it back in. Set hook when you feel the tug. Released another 45-50 of them. They are not there most of the time. I was just in the right place at the right time today. Fished there many other times in the last couple of weeks and the most I have caught has been 3. Probably caught 15 or 20 trout there today also. Let's see the video! "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
duckydoty Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Let's see the video! It is burned in my head! LOL! A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners

I'm sure the arresting officer will understand. I didn't realize opinions only only counted for people who have witnessed rampant poaching and bottoms lined with dead smallmouth. All I know is I catch plenty of smallmouth throughout the year so those evil meat fishermen aren't hurting them enough for me to worry about. Sure hope you hurt another person driving that fast. The important thing is it won't be a smallmouth getting hurt. There are some fellas here who seem to value a fishes life over a humans.
Seth Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 It is burned in my head! LOL! Better not post anything in the panfish section. You probably gave up somebodies super secret crappie hole and they will show up to lynch you LOL!
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 20, 2014 Root Admin Posted January 20, 2014 Doubt if I have time to work up the crappie video today... the trout vid is much more entertaining. Besides, all you see is Duane in the background catching fish and I'm catching nil!
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 It wasn't the trout park portion of the post that posed a threat, it was area open to keeping that has them stacked up. It';s not about keeping smallmouth or giving away a hotspot. Very few on here give details unless the area is well known. The area detailed isn't well known as a winter hole. It's hard enough to get the MDC to stop people from keeping them in the spring branch, much less telling them where they can have at it. It to each his own, but if you profess to being a guardian of the smallmouth and one of its greatest fans, then you shouldn't throw them to the wolves for some self satisfaction. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
