Bill Babler Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 I just have not gotten enough bites on the crazy thing to keep throwing it. Seems to be way to many other kids in my tackle box that they like much better using the same presentations. I'm going to check out that video http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
dtrs5kprs Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 I....must....resist....the.......urge.....to.....purchase..... I am all eaten up with the dark side. Come on over, we have Zman and snacks.

I'm going to check out that video This is the one that is striking, it's Lanier, but think it is applicable: http://thebbz.com/videos/2013/5/6/do-your-remember-your-first-swimbait-fish He has some crazy vids (like how to make and fish your body's own shadow). This is another one that looks "Rock-ish" in terms of water and fish behavior: http://thebbz.com/videos/2013/11/18/understanding-the-spro-bbz-1-floater Watched a bunch of his vids, reminds me of the theories you used to read from people like Bill Murphy. Real big fish hunters. And I'm with you Bill...lots of stuff to throw, and I'll throw finesse 85% of the time. Thinking of it for those days when it just seems like there should be some better size coming from the same areas, or for those once a year days when I just try to stick one or two bigs.
Bill Babler Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Tried to watch some of these video, but they completely wear me out. He is surly marching to his own drummer. Spro has got to love the publicity however. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
dtrs5kprs Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Surprises me how many small fish he catches. Always thought of it as a one or two bite deal.
Moswimb8slinger Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 I change the hooks on the S-waver, not the BBZ1, unless they're damaged, I've read the S-waver Hooks like to snap/brake. If you look at the pics with the 4"shad, i painted a little red ahead of and near the hook. If you look at the bait from the bottom, the whole belly is white except the tail which has a bronze yellow tip. I had 15 hits on that floater one day and about 13 of them slap the tail, some flipped the whole bait out of the water. So i painted the red on it to create a different focus point that afternoon and the next day i hooked 5/5 fish that hit it. Another tip with the floater 4", you can wrap lead wire around the hook and make it a super slow sink, or suspenDots or strips could work too
Moswimb8slinger Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 I've only caught maybe 2 undersized (15") fish since late October. Most of them are in the 17-20 inch range, most of the time i go after work with only 1.5-2 hours of daylight. So it's not like it's taking all day to catch a limit. Pretty much- probe a spot with 5-10 casts if there's a follower or a blow up on a floater try tossing a sinker or recast the same spot and do a different retrieve. If there's nothing after roughly the 10th cast or so move on to the next spot Bill, I've talked with a couple of other guides and like some people, they expect immediate results and if they don't get that feedback from the fish they may think its not working right, or they just lose confidence and revert to what they're used to catching fish with. At first i did the same thing, but i was set on using these baits for a greater chance at catching bigger fish. Plus its been several years since i got a LM over 6lbs, a SM over 5lbs and a spot over 4lbs, I'm just increasing my odds.

That has been my limited experience with swimmers on TR. The ones that do eat it are pretty solid, but that has been with 4"-6" soft baits, the 4" BBZ, or the Sebile types. That's what surprised me about how many smaller fish Siemantel hits or pulls in his videos. Maybe it is just a CA thing.
Bill Babler Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 I'm a very different cat on giving a bait a good chance. More of a Bulldog than a Cat as I will just blister it in every condition and ask clients to use it if they wish after seeing it and seeing other use baits in comparison. I have not throw it a bunch, I'm going to say maybe counting client time I've had it wet between 20 and 30 hrs. Not a great test, but pretty good for a new bait for me. thrown at good low light time here on the Rock. I have had several fish boil on it, but at this time have not seen a catch or a slam on the bait. And I am talking about the floater. In the same time period out of the same boat I have had catch after catch side by side using a fin. As I said, I'm not going to give up on it yet, but I have given it a pretty good bath. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
