Sore Thumbs Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 My last post was to Alex from Feb 4th I thought it was the most recent post. My bad.
dtrs5kprs Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 First off, those look great Dave. Secondly, spot on with don't just stick to craw patterns. I like the craw patterns myself but my grandfather who fished Table Rock since the 70's and lived there since the 80's threw just one color and one color only and has PLENTY of fish and BIG fish to show for it. It was not a craw pattern either. Looks similar to one of your custom paints in the pic....I'll let you figure it out. It's a family favorite. I'll bet I can get within three of it, and it is probably not a popular color.
Members Tbt51 Posted February 11, 2014 Members Posted February 11, 2014 I found these two at a local sale. Notice the bill on the blue one. Anyone know if this is an original bill?
dtrs5kprs Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Looks it. Were you concerned about the mold marks?
Members Tbt51 Posted February 11, 2014 Members Posted February 11, 2014 Looks it. Were you concerned about the mold marks? Just curious about the depression in the bill. Older or newer model than the chartreuse one next to it?
gotmuddy Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 that depression was probably for a stick on weight. I bought two early warts at a pawn shop in batesville everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
abkeenan Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 that depression was probably for a stick on weight. I bought two early warts at a pawn shop in batesville If you look back 4 or 5 pages ago this was brought up with regards to the "cup" in the lip. They are original to the bait and not a tweak to the bait by someone. I have a few like this and Dave also put up some pics with examples of his also.

troutgnat Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 +1 on that. You are correct. Another dead give away on the original warts.....a lot of them do have a very pronounced seam line that you can see down the middle of the top side of the lip. This is from the two sides being fused together down the center of the bait(basically "sonic welding" was the term I remember Rapala calling it. That's where they take the left side and the right side and glue them together. Sometimes this is the very cause of some baits being very hard to tune due to them being off-center. This is the primary reason Rapala changed the design process. Darren Sadler "Fishing is an Education...Often the fish 'school' me, yet I do not complain. I just keep going to class!"
troutgnat Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 That is correct DTRS Darren Sadler "Fishing is an Education...Often the fish 'school' me, yet I do not complain. I just keep going to class!"
