Mitch f Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 If money was no concern and you were building your dream casting rod, what kind of guides would you put on it? "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Members Bruegy Posted January 30, 2014 Members Posted January 30, 2014 I've never really gone too in depth with researching guides, I use Fuji most often and like them..
fishinwrench Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Fuji or PacBay SIC are what I use. But I'm kinda ol'school when it comes to my rods. That said... if you're building on a good blank there's nowhere to cut corners, so go with the best stuff you can afford. Nothing kills the build worse than some low grade cork, a cheap real seat, or cheesy guides.
am4mu Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Me personally titanium ringlock. I'm kinda partial to Alps, Fuji and American tackle. But that is just my preference. Lots of good stuff out there. Doug Kiefer Independence, Mo h: am4mu@comcast.net w: dougk@schulzetool.com
rps Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I use the Recoil titanium micro guides, tied in a spiral wrap.
am4mu Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Recoil titanium micro's in a spiral wrap. Good point! An excellent choice!! Doug Kiefer Independence, Mo h: am4mu@comcast.net w: dougk@schulzetool.com
Feathers and Fins Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Mitch, that is simple if price wasn't a problem http://calstarrods.net/ I would order at least 8 rods without blinking. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
5bites Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I'd probably use these: http://www.mudhole.com/Rod-Building/Artus-Micro-Guides/NIRLMG-TITAN-RingLock-Micro-Guides I don't recommend the recoil guides especially on a casting rod. Maybe on a light spinning rod. I'd only use them if a customer was bent on using them.

I have used a St. Croix blank tied with recoil micros in spiral fashion for over a year now. It is my topwater rod, and regular readers here know i fish topwater. So far, so great for me. What am I missing?
dtrs5kprs Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Any $ o.k. = Recoils. Have them on a St Croix Legend Elite, and 3 GLX Loomis sticks. Fish them with mono, fluoro, braid, anything you can spool. Fast baits and slow. Mostly build with Fuji Alconites, concept style. Have lately started using some Batson Forecast for more "everyday" rods, and have been impressed so far. Went there b/c my favorite Ned Rig rod is a St Croix Eyecon walley rod, wrapped with Forecasts.
