eyedabassman Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Is it over around the spawn? Or Later?
Old plug Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 i do not use them. but you have it a little twisted. they will hit it anytime of the year if it used in the right place at the right time. that what is the important thing not the lure. that is whats called the pattern. you will figure that out yourself
Feathers and Fins Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 all year long, haven't you heard it is the best bait ever and always every throw catches a fish. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
J-Doc Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 40-60 degree water works best. After that, they start to feel like they've had Hitler's Luftwaffe bombarding them for months and they grow tired of it. That's what I've been told anyway. I think Old Plug is correct though. They can work all year if a pattern is established. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. Old plug Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 J-Doc when I posted that I was sort of thinking about deep trolling. Would seem that would be good down there.
willyfish Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 I know when Brent Long won an FLW a few years ago some guys were throwing it. Spencer Shuffield finished 2nd or 3rd I think and I know he was using it. That tournament took place in April and the fish were in all three phases.
J-Doc Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 I have not tried that. I bet it could work but downriggers would be a must to get it below 15-20ft and fish it affectively. With downriggers, you can keep it within 50ftof the boat and sweep the points on main lakes where the bass are grouped up in summer. O bet that thing could catch some good sized ones. When I'm trolling, I'm food hunting. I leave Ole Green-jeans alone and get irritated when I catch a bass. Lol! My mind is on table fare. Need marine repair? dtrs5kprs Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Have caught them on the rig as late as the last week of April. Can't seem to get them to eat it later, even when throwing it into schools. Threw it in some fish last summer that were clobbering redfins, nothing. One of the seminars addressed possible reasons why, think it was Phil Stone's.
ozarksfishin Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 In my experience, the fish like it in the colder water. They are looking for shad in tight schools, but when the water warms up, the shad are not as tightly packed. The bass will pick one shad off and chase it down. I haven't had much luck on it when the water gets in the upper 50s. With the water temps low like they are, we should have a good a rig bite for a while. That was what I remembered hearing.
