I was in Bass Pro this week and was talking to a guy who was Rayo's cousin and he told me ESPN was running a documentary on him this Sunday. Just wonder if any of your Arkansas Boys remember him and would be interested. He was really quite a guy.

I lived 2 doors down from his brother Gail for years. Gail is now a duck hunting guide in Arkansas last I heard. Rayo was a heckuva fisherman! Thanks for the heads up,

Will absolutely look for it on the TV guide. Thanks indeed for the heads-up. Rayo was well liked among the people I know who knew him.

Never heard of him but I'm now Googling everything I can! (I haven't been into bass fishing but only about 10yrs now so I'm still learning)

Definitely interested now!

Here's an interesting resource of info/photos.

Jerry----- enjoyed reading reading that. I seen the photo of him with the big smallmouth for Lake Erie. My daughter lived in Ohio for several years. Her husbands brother fished Lake Erie for Walleye mostly. He considered Smallmouth a nuisance. he had pictures from recent years of several 4 lb smallmouth because he kept them with much larger Walleye. He also caught Muskies in the 20 to 25 lb range. All of this and he was a committed troller.

I have a friend his son is based in Detroit for Harley Davidson sales. My friend has been up there 3 times. They get a guide and troller for a day. I cannot believe the smallmouth they catch in that place. We would have went together this next June but he and I both both had Prostrate cancer this past year and now he has it in his kidneys as well. But all you smallmouth bass fisherman should check that place out. it is a shallow hard to fish lake with many high spots and other underwater structure. But what I have seen makes me think it must be one of thr finest smallmouth lake in the Nation if not the world.

Man does that bring back soome memories. Rayo's wife and I taught school together in Green Coounty Arkansas in the 1960"s.

Rayo was always quite a fisherman and hunter. Before he won the Bassmaster in 1974 he had to divide his time between farming and fishing. I had the opportunity to fish with Rayo before and after he won the Bassmasters. I think he did more to promote fishing in Arkansas than he was ever given credit for. One of my fondest memories of Rayo and is wiife was floating the Eleven Point River in Arkansas with my wife and I fishing for smallmouth. I do know for a fact the he became more and more upset about some of the questionable antics used to acquirie fish to bring to the weigh ins,

You guys are correct he had that certian talent necessary to read fish and conditions during all times of the year.
