strangercreek Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 I was looking around for something to use for someone that doesn't want to bother with a fly rod and found this. I have tried to get back into using some conventional gear but always find myself adapting conventional methods into fly fishing somehow, but this is a neat idea. I would like to try it just for fun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbgff4bylyg
Old plug Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 That does seem interesting. I am one of those people Have bad shoulders from Arthritis. I have some tiny corks I put in front of flies and it seems to work real well. This thing looks like it would be a pain to rig and change. The cork seems easier.
fishinwrench Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Just for fun? That looks like less fun than throwing lawn darts, to me. No mending? C'mon now, flyfishing has got to be easier than mastering that gawd-aweful contraption. I predict that brainstorm will result in a divorce and loss of a house, at the very least. I actually feel sorry for the dude that poured his heart & soul into it.
dave potts Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 I think Halterman invented that system years ago. He once ran a flyshop in northern Arkansas and may still be there. I was in the shop some twenty years ago and bought that little book shown in the video. He is also the inventor of that twist on strike indicator shown in the video.
Flysmallie Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Just for fun? That looks like less fun than throwing lawn darts, to me. Agreed. That thing makes a hell of a splash too. If I can learn to cast a fly rod (badly) then anyone can.
Big Brown Trout Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 in the videos description it says "Don't struggle with a bubble". Honestly I don't see how this is any different than a bubble. Likewise I bet adding a length of fly line in your system would get nearly the same results. My method of fly fishing is far simpler and more effective than this, I just haven't figured out how to market it and make a million dollars yet. Let the summer of Carp, begin.
