wdberkley Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 I'll gladly add myself to the Shimano Stradic CI-4 list. I've got the best Shimano makes, and to be 100% honest, for the money, a CI-4 is hard to beat. They're tough, buttery smooth, reels, and if you take care of them they'll last a lifetime. Also agree on the Nanofil with a flouro leader. I've tried mono, flouro, braid, and nothing can compare with the casting distance and sensitivity of Nanofil. You just gotta replace it at least once a year, depending on how much you fish because it starts to fray.
Hojo Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Any issues with knots connecting the Nanofil and flouro?
wdberkley Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Any issues with knots connecting the Nanofil and flouro? I use a Spro #10 barrel swivel instead of tying a blood knot or something similar to join the flouro to the nanofil. I found that Nanofil has a slippage issue and using a barrel swivel allows you to tie a double palomar which seems to hold pretty well, not to mention it cuts down on line spin. Spro #10's are tiny, right at 1/4 inch, and are rated at 35lbs. I typically use a 4-6 foot leader, 6-10 lb Flouro depending on the application.
hknfsh Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 I may be considered an outcast for this.....but I've been an Okuma user for years. Very affordable reels and never have any trouble with them.
Sac River Jim Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 i have an okuma avenger 15av i've tried to wear out and can't. ive got it on a 7'2'' outlaw crappie pole and its my goto rod when i'm crappie or white bass fishing. I also have several bps, pflueger and a couple quantum reels and my pro qualifier IM8 combo is probably my favorite its 4 years old and is holding up nicely
gabe Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 I'm also a Shimano C1-4 and Stradic fan. They have performed great with no problems thus far, including when they are wet.
Members lollygagger Posted February 23, 2014 Members Posted February 23, 2014 Have or had about all of them. Mostly use Lews and US Reel for the oversize spools.
Old plug Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 I have a friend who is a Okuma dealer. Among other reels he sells. He has a lot if good words for them. They certainly are not cheap.

I always thought Okuma has always had very aggressive pricing on their gear and usually pretty good reviews on all their reels (spinning or bait caster) as well as their rods. Priced below the Daiwa's, Shimano's. Quantum's, etc.
Krazo Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Im a shimano guy. ive got several saharas and a sedona. all in various sizes, 750, 1000, 2500. Never had an issue with them. I mainly use them on rivers fishing every thing from a small creek like crane creek to places like the niangua river & out on to the main. they've held up, however i do go clean them up about every couple years and grease/oil them but that will help any reel.
