buddygr53 Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 I had a 1999 mercury on my champion and all I ever used was 87. Never once failed. Never once took to shop for repair becouse of fuel. Never ever added anything to the fuel..
Wayne SW/MO Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 For many years I have read how bad ethanol is for outboard motors. Am I way off base here? Does it not effect four strokes like the older two strokes maybe? Please expound. After running my 4 stroke for 3 years on non ethanol and having no problems I started running it on ethanol. After 2 $700 carb rebuilds it has sat for the last 5 years. I haven't run it on non ethanol again because it wasn't available after the last rebuild. This is a carburetor Merc with about 50 hours on it. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Hunter53 Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 I always try to find the 87 without ethanol. No worries if ethanol causes problems or not and better fuel mileage.
Members jayates Posted March 2, 2014 Members Posted March 2, 2014 Where do you find 87 octane thats ethanol free ????
Hunter53 Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Most of our stations up here have it. They will have both 87 with 10% ethanol and 87 without ethanol. What I have a hard time finding unless I am in a bigger town is premium (91 or higher) gas for our vette.
Wayne SW/MO Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 I'd like to take a stab at that POS, why don't ya drag it up during the White bass run. I might just do that. It's not like I'm doing anything else with it. At least with with kayaks and canoes if you break a paddle new ones won't break you. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members jayates Posted March 2, 2014 Members Posted March 2, 2014 Never seen 87ethanol free gas in the rock or stockton area.If anyone knows of a place to get it please post where its at!

It's the high octane premium. I believe by law that is the only grade exempted. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

That would have to be a MO law then as we have the 87 no ethanol all over the place here in Nebraska. It is anywhere from 10-20 cents a gallon higher though.
