I'm gonna make me a drag chain like Ham is explained. We went Thursday, and I had a charged up trolling moter, we used his chain on my boat and never deployed it one time. Only one time all day did the chain hang, and the inner tube gives enough slack that you won't get thrown. I've got about the same boat you explained, love mine to death!!

There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!

Do you have the Metalogic spider seats? Don't leave those in the boat. They will fly out eventually. Move them inside the vehicle or strap them down. I use a bungee strap stretched from grab rail to grab rail with both chairs side by side under it. No issues so far.

Yes, I have 3 of the metalogic chairs. They seem quite nice. I lost the drivers seat bringing it home so I need to purchase a new seat and seat base.

The boat is wired for a trolling motor but never had one put on, that will be another future purchase.

I think I am going to go to Lowes today and buy some chain and rope. You guys are inspiring me!

Could you all tell me what motors you run on your rigs, include the pros and cons that you have found out by using them.

As I said, I was leaning toward a buying a 20hp but there is no sound logic behind that so I am open to about anything, and would rather be educated by you all now then to figure out 6 mo from now that I got the wrong gear.

As I said 90% of my time will be in the Little Red.

The only downside to a 20 is you can't legally run it on the Buffalo. I've got a Shawnee that's basically the same boat as yours. It's got a 10 HP Yamaha that's been rejetted to 15 HP. It does fine. That said, a 50/30 jet is in my future. Money is made to spend is the way I look at that purchase. Won't be getting rid of the Yamaha though.

Is the increased cost really worth it when it comes to the jet motor?

I see more people without them, than with them, and them seem to get along just fine.

The male testosterone side says go buy a 40/30 jet and be done with it.

The reality based side says I would get the job done with a reg prop motor.

$4000 vs $6000 is big difference.

1. When it comes to prop motors in the Little Red is a 20hp my best choice or should I look at bigger or smaller?

2. What motor would everyone get if money was not a factor?

I also am going to modify my chain with the inner tube as Ham has explained. The only difference is that I use and will continue for an extra layer of safety release I have a basically a fairly heavy wire that I connect to the eye of the boat, hard pull it turns loose.

I have a merc 25-20 jet and a 9.9 merc longshaft prop, I innerchange to meet needs. (the longshaft will run on the high transom) Having fished the Little Red several times I can tell you the only time I used the jet was the first trip. It was unfamiliar water, so I was going slow. But the jet sucked up so much of that coon tail that I was wore out cleaning it out, those big mats were just brutal for me. This was all on low water. Each trip since the 9.9 prop has preformed flawlessly. If you consider a jet, be sure and look at the Tohatsu 40/25, or the etec as they are still two stroke, smaller and lighter than the 4 strokes. Botton line, the Little Red is not that "big" of river, I would go with a 9.9 prop maybe get it adjusted to 15.
