Well maybe we can get through this one without popcorn or undue angst. Please.

GTN...basically it is a small lead head (1/32-1/8oz) with 1/2 of an elaztech stickbait (Zman Zinkerz or SK Zero). Throw it on 6# line and a drop shot rod and have fun. Search for Ned Rig or Midwest Finesse on here, lots of info and video links. Also visit Ned Kehde's blog at In Fisherman's site.

The elaztech stuff really makes it go. Regular plastic is not the same.

After 30 years of fishing, going on 18 at TR, it is the closest thing I have seen to a magic bullet.

And Quill...just to make it worse, it was probably a big black. Had one pull off like that in 2012. Gotta love that GP/orange.

On a tablet now, will try to run down some links when I have a mouse close at hand. Right now only a hamster and she is just confused when I try to double click her head.

Let the little rig conversation begin. Keep throwing the rig QB it will put em in the boat. Come on Spring!

We really need to get something put together that consolidates the various links and threads. If only to prevent their loss at some future point.

I have been throwing the ned rig on a 1/8 oz head with 8lb test. Do you think I need a 1/16 oz with 6lb instead? I also wanted to know what colors are working right now, I usually use GP, watermelon or pb&j. Do they prefer one over the other in this cold water?

Six pound is always better. Your colors are fine. Head size depends on depth, wind, position of the fish. The 1/16 is the basic, 1/8 for deeper work. Fight the urge to start with the 1/8 as a way to feel the bait. It is best when you can only sort of feel it.

Thanks. I get to come down on friday and fish so I am trying to get as prepared as possible beforehand. I will restring with 6lb. In regards to the jig head, arent the fish a little deeper still? Thats why I was thinking 1/8 oz but I am definitely new to all of this so any tips are appreciated.

Dtrs5kprs has the best jigheads that I've seen.

Color is simple:

Green Pumpkin/red

Watermelon/Orange

Always start with a 1/16oz jighead, lighter is better.

I use the 1/8oz for water deeper than 10ft, or windy days.

I'm a believer in braid to floor leaders.

Everybody has their own style.

I think the open hook style is better suited for clean gravel.

Whereas, the weedguard is effective "heavier" cover like boat docks & sunken brush piles.

Good luck & post photos.
