dtrs5kprs Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 those barge wakes are huge for sure. Been there, done that. Pool just downriver from Prairie pool. Guttenberg I think. Of course that was with the 150hp limit. It just meant everyone ran smaller boats.
Alex Heitman Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 I was never scared to ride with them. I never felt unsafe. It just really jars you around when you are balls to the wall on a long run, especially during takeoff when there are a lot of wakes and anglers heading in the same direction.

Ever been to Bayou Meto on opening day of duck season? I have never seen a fishing tourney that could scare me, Meto on opener does. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
arsenal1477 Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Great post. On a personal level, I learned the passion and too share that level that you all have with fishing...both as a sport and recreational. I am truly envious that a vast majority of you get to call the rock home. My father and I have been coming down for over 30 years now and have yet to be disappointed. Yeah, there are the trips to where you couldn't catch em if there were 1000 in a harvest net 10 feet in front of you, but it's those trips that humble and only make me a better angler. I honestly feel that if you can catch bass on a routine basis at Table Rock that you have all of the elements to catch fish any where. From a fishery standpoint and I believe some of you have hashed this out, that the fishery is very much back, alive and well. That is with out a doubt attributed to those of you who navigate that lake on a regular basis preaching the almost humanistic qualities of bass. Furthermore, the education you pass on to your fellow anglers is by far and away the most selfless act in the industry. From someone who regrettably gets to come down there only once a year, I appreciate the work you have all put into maintaining this amazing fishery so that I too will be able to pass on and share the experiences I have had with my father, onto my own kids.
jmes Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 For me it would be a few things 1 Concentration level, staying focused all day even for multiple days 2 Being a better person, I watch Tim Horton trying his best to catch better fish and then a spectator trolls right up to him and asks for a autograph. He took time out of his tournament to do that and was very professional about it.I don't know if I could of done that or not
balsabee Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 A couple of different baits to use when the wart is dragging up moss and you know fish are actively chasing in that area. In the past I tried to avoid it if at all possible and it seems like the past several years that's getting harder to do.
Sac River Jim Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 i studied their cadences throwing the jerk bait there was alot of variance in the cadences depending on location and water conditions for one thing, but i was thinking bout Mike throwing that light swim bait i think that the fish that moved back out to the secondary water column were suspended and looking up to feed.
Alex Heitman Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 After watching those guys with jerkbaits. I don't think I will ever let mine sit as long I thought you originally had to. Especially with Flurocarbon line. Sinks to match and you do not get the same action. If you fish them a little faster it is great combo though.

Im curious, did they slow wind the jerkbait, then start pulling the bait by sweeping the rod? This is how I fish them if twitch & pause doesn't work. What percentage of custom painted or homemade lures do they use?

If you fish them a little faster it is great combo though. the length of time that a jerk bait needs to sit, it really dependent on what the bass are telling you. plus, we are now fishing in 50 + water temps, and naturally the speed can be picked up. always experiment with your speed until you discover what is triggering strikes. bo
