Members pt1 Posted April 10, 2014 Members Posted April 10, 2014 Anybody getting or hear of anyone getting a grub bite yet? Or is the water still too cool?
Quillback Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 I haven't thrown one, but they are eating the Ned rig, which is similar (sort of). I bet the grub will work.
Ham Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 I'm chomping at the bit to find out. I hate that lately I'm relagated to fishing the weekends rather than during the week. I'm wanting to try a LMB bite that I've been told about, BUT the siren song of smallies eating a grub is pulling me towards gravel points. I freaking love the grub bite. Ned Rig you say? What is the Ned Rig you speak of? ....Lol. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
dtrs5kprs Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Ned fish are not necessarily grub fish. The opposite is more frequently true. Some of the Ned fish will be too shallow for the grub, without dropping to 1/16oz heads. I'm sure we will get a grub bite, but am sort of feeling like it will not be what it sometimes is. With the long winter, think there will be a lot of fish that go straight to the bank without staging in the "grub" spots. Will have to see.
Ham Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 The lthing I like about a "normal" spring is the transition of the "hot" bite from one species to another. Walleye early, White Bass next, prespawn bass, grub bite, crappie bite, pre summer peak, and then creek fishing until November. I guess the walleye deal happened in creeks already. The White Bass deal is still kinda smouldering and I fear everything is going to be happening at once. I'm always going to have work and family stuff take precedence over fishing and with all the bites happening at once I'm going to miss out on lots of good fishing. mjk86 Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 I would have thought that with all the keitech type swim baits being thrown by the pros that they would have dragged a grub around more. I guess they work the swimbaits shallower than the grubs? Ive worked them both at all levels of the water column interchangeably with good results...albeit not on table rock. On a side note....has anyone tried the berkely havoc knockoff of the swing impact? I picked up a pack cuz they are much cheaper than the keitechs but have yet to use them. The color selection is pretty slim.
Quillback Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 There's so many things that could work right now - a guy could spend all day changing out stuff to see what works.
mjk86 Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Yeah...its about the time of year when you pull out the dumbest bait youve ever bought just to say you caught something on it.

I picked up a pack cuz they are much cheaper than the keitechs but have yet to use them. The color selection is pretty slim. I've been pretty happy with most the havoc stuff, so I imagine these would follow suit. The keitechs and the bass pro knock offs are pretty pricey. I'll pick up a bag of the havocs when I see them to try them out.
Ham Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 I thought it was odd that the BPS Swing Impact baits are basically the same price as the Keitechs. Fragile little baits, but they get bit. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
