dtrs5kprs Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 This will be the last on location report for a few weeks. Still in lazy mode. Had breakfast with the gang at Ma's plus magicworman. Got on the water about 8am, safely after the big red storm settled. Wind, yes there was wind. Started with a keeper spot, and a few shorts. Got tired of wind and tried to find some place to duck it. Good luck with that. Fished fast for about 20 minutes and got bored, so decided to put my hood up and bear down with the little rig. Fished the little rig in wind, on mixed and gravel banks. Brownies went stupid today. Ended with 15 keepers, and about that many again in shorts. Most fish were right on the bank, bank to 3-4'. Caught them with a mix of swimming it, and slowly dragging it. Kind of like a grub or split shot. Most bites were pretty aggressive, like a good solid smoke grub bite. No killers, just solid and angry brown fish. Four keepers were blacks, one spot, rest brown. Best was 17". Usual PBJ on the 1/8oz head. If not for the wind, would have been throwing the 1/16oz. They were positioned perfectly for it. When I get home, I will try to come up with a summary of lessons learned this trip. There were many. If those buck brownies are just coming in, the next two weeks should be crazy. Those are the fish I normally live on in April. Pics were a bear. Where oh where was Don today?
dtrs5kprs Posted April 30, 2014 Author Posted April 30, 2014 Sorry, that is a Kimberling City report (which might be code for a super secret location). Fished 8am until 130pm. Might have stayed longer if not for being get away day, and not being smart enough to start in my gore tex. Fished in jeans and a TW promo hoodie.
fishingaddiction Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Scratched out a very nice fish Dave, on a very cold windy day. If the reports you have posted since you've been on your trip haven't convinced everyone of the power of the little rig nothing will. Have a safe trip home. Born to Fish. Forced to Work.
Nitro 750 Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Thanks for all of your reports and pictures. We plan on being on the lake this weekend and going to give the little rig a try!!!! Like to fish slow, so should be right up our alley. Thanks again for the great reports!!!!!

Dave actually caught all of his fish on an A-Rig the past few weeks and then just sticks a little rig in their mouth to mess with people on this forum. He is a sick and twisted individual. Nice report btw Dave even if it isn't entirely accurate.

abkeenan Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Busted. Never trust a Jayhawk, or a guy from Kansas throwing a "Dukie" worm.
dtrs5kprs Posted April 30, 2014 Author Posted April 30, 2014 Never trust a Jayhawk, or a guy from Kansas throwing a "Dukie" worm. Look out before I start tallying up final fours...
Ham Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I fished with cajunangler yesterday on Bull out of Leadhill. Similiar results. I'm old enough that I should not keep re-learning the same lessons. I did not have enough clothes on either. I borrowed some stuff from my buddy to get by, but when I finally broke down and put my Gore Tex jacket on I felt better immediately. Duh. With the wind we had and the water temps, we started with spinnerbaits. We caught a few, but it wasn't great. I used that stupid wobble jig. I'm still trying to get a feel for it. I caught one dinky fish on it. We tried all kinds of stuff, but once again, The Ned rig saved our butts. In the high winds and clouds, I had to throw a Ned to catch fish good. Sad, but true. We fished HARD from 0700 until 2000. We had over 50 fish between us. Very few smallies. Mostly Spots and Largies. One big crappie. I had a nice Drum. I got a monster blue gill on a spy bait. Constant bites from panfish. Wind kicked our butt all day long. There were areas will less wind and there areas with impossible amounts of wind, but most stuff was kind of inbetween. At times, I jumped up to 1/8 oz Ned. At times, I was able to throw the 1/16 oz. I had to talk a lot more of the fish into eating the Ned than I am used to. Fish just ate it last Friday. Yesterday, lots more tentative bites. I had a blast, but more clothes would have made things better and less wind. Like 10-15 mph would have been so much better. Quillback Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I see that Bassmaster magazine has ranked Sturgeon Bay, WI as the #1 bass destination in the USA. Lots and lots of big smallies - I wonder if they've even seen the Ned? That would be a fun road trip to go up there and fish for those smallies.
