I shot this last night. Didn't spend much time doing it -- may scrap it and try again with less mistakes and better "script".

I have a hard time NOT looking at the camera.

But the fish cooperated. The water was moving extremely slow!

Do you know where I can find circle hooks as small as #8's or #10's? That's been our problem- can't find them small enough to use for trout.

I don't always use bait for trout, but when I do, I do it with circle hooks.

OK, enough with the most interesting man in the world line. Mostly I use bait, either crawlers or gulp eggs, when I take someone with me that hasn't fished a lot. Or somebody who is light, or slow on the hook set. When drifting with the circle hooks the fish tend to just "attach" them selves to the end of the line!

Where it does seem that there are significantly fewer gut hooked fish, it does still happen with circle hooks.

I use #6 for crawlers, and #8 with gulp eggs. One white, and one of another color which I vary between pink, orange, or chartreuse experimenting until I find what the fish want. But always one white.

Another little trick when the bite is slow that sometimes helps, especially with crawlers, is using a red hook. Don't really know why, maybe "killer instinct" with something looking injured and bleeding.

Real men go propless!

I've used the Gamakatsu circle hooks in a size 8 with gulp eggs and they work as advertised. Gotta remember not to set the hook and leave the point of the hook exposed.

When I drift with bait, I always go barbless - you can quickly and easily unhook fish while they're in the water with minimal damage, even if the hook is in the back of their throats. I rarely lose fish without the barb as well - and a lost fish here and there is worth it
