And he is also correct, action in the conventional sense is not the goal. Just a very subtle "something" in the water near the fish is what you are presenting. Ideally, you just want the fish to barely sense that something is there, without shouting "look at me" at them.

-

I'm probably losing my mind here, but just play along for the moment. This is kind of what I visualize sometimes when fishing the little bait.

-

I kind of equate the Ned rig to fish, like playing with an old sock; with a dog.

-

The dog can be in a playful mood; and if you wave or throw the sock to him; he may chase after it.(like a cast into the water) or, he may choose to stalk it or stare at it; waiting for it to move.(Ned rig sitting on the bottom) But, you leave that sock sit in the dogs sight ,motionless for a while, the instant you move that sock..........the dog will pounce!

-

And, Don't think you can walk down the street swinging that sock over your head; and dogs will come running. (Ned rig not a search bait) But, get in front of a few interested dogs; with that sock........it's game on!

thats a very good point one my pups had him a little possum bayed out in the yard the other night. he'd lay there and stare at it but when it twitched he pounced on it. that went on for an hour or so till he finally killed it. i think your exactly right moto those bass are showing the same instincts as any other predator even like a cat torturing a mouse. hope PETA dont see my post lmbo!!!!

If you consider what a small craw looks like when it's either crawling and not threatened (or unaware of a threat) or when it's making a hasty retreat (when bass often swoop in for the attack), they're very streamlined with their legs in close and pincers extended in front of their body. A 1/2 Zinker looks pretty similar to a smaller craw (easier to handle than a big craw). It kind of darts and glides around the same way when you move it as well.

If there is any truth to that I have no idea, but that's one of the best rationalizations I can come up with for why a fish would eat a bait that does next to nothing in the water :secret-laugh:

Fished a small St. Louis area club tournament with my wife in the Aunts Creek area this past weekend and had to add to this topic. She's the definition of fair weather fisherman, and usually won't even come out during an entire week at LOZ, but I put together a batch of Green pumpkin and PBJ Neds for this tournament and she had an absolute blast. Simple spinning outfit and some super glue later, we finished middle of the pack and importantly had a blast catching all three species in a main lake pocket, 12-20 FOW.

Amazing little bait, anyone wondering if it is still catching, the answer is a resounding yes!

Glad it worked for you. It will continue to work well into summer, at the least. Hope to drag it around on some FB fish places this summer.

That's cool to hear about the pup doing that with that dumb possum. That's exactly the kind of behavior that comes to mind.

And we won't tell PETA.:-P
