We have a. neighbor that his son was threatened by a pit bull. I never seen it but know there is some summer person has one or did. The neighbors dog tore into that pit bull and tore him up pretty good. I do not know what breed he is. He something not to common. He weighs well over 100 lbs and he is slender. Tremendous musclier legs. He is jet black and has a head like a scotty terrier. He told me the name but I forgot it.All I can remember is him saying they originated in WW1 and they were German war dogs. I love hime he has a lot of deer around here scared to death about coming out on the point I live on. I have never seen another one but him.

I have to add myself to the anti pit camp. I have a cousin who's daughters think they're the best thing going, but when we camp they keep them on a tight leash. The bad thing about them as I see it is that they get a hold and don't let go. That's not an animal that you can back off.

Rotts can be bad, but in my experience it seems they have to be taught to be guard dogs, just like G Shepherds do. Dogs are really more of an alert and a warning to an intruder than an active guard.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

I don't much care for pits, rottweilers or pinschers, I've seen all three go off kilter too much to suit me. We've got a big dog that I am getting to like though, he is half Great Pyrenees and half Australian Shepherd. Big boy bark for sure very alert and he is very athletic, thus far the temperament is superb. Takes no crap from the other dogs but doesn't offer any up on his own. Coat might be an issue, he's as hairy of a dog as I've ever had and that's for certain.

I'm old school about problem dogs. Sometimes dogs just run off or something and don't come back.

I've known a few cats that have done the same. :)

My wife had a pit bull once and at the time it was the best dog she ever owned, but she will also tell you that they had to wrestle with it each day to help work out the aggression otherwise it would have gone bananas. She never had an issue, but she (now we) will never have another one because of the work required to keep it's aggression in check.

As for the neighbor in question, I am pretty sure his home owners insurance requires an actual fenced yard...don't think a an electric fence will keep them covered. It is different if someone comes into their yard over a fence and the dog bites as opposed to the dog coming into yours...that is a big no no and could make them vulnerable to lawsuit etc...should you want to go that route.

We have a Siberian Husky who will turn 11 this summer...and it is by far the best dog we have ever owned. They are way to friendly for watch dogs, but they are excellent with kids. If you can get past the shedding and the exercise requirements they are wonderful.

Dogs have been the same forever, it's people (and what they consider acceptable behavior) that have changed.....and keep changing.

Just something to consider.

Well, that's just flat wrong wrench. Dogs are continually changing based on selective breeding. I don't see that happening in humans. You're not going Jimmy the Greek on us are you?

...and sometimes they go to 'live on a farm'. Happened to one of our dogs when I was young -- a Welsh Corgi that wouldn't stop herding the neighborhood kids.

You're probably referring to Der Blitzenschnausers. One of the most feared enemies we ever faced:

siberian's are an excellent dog, super friendly dog, except when my newborn daughter would cry, he would get a little defensive.

I just talked to the owner of the big black dog. He is a giant schnauzer weighs 115 lbs. they had to destroy the pit bull he ripped him real good. If I seen that big black thing coming at me I would have run. I like him and we have a pleasant relationship but I got a lot of respect for him

I also wonder if some pet adoption agencies aren't a little too eager to find homes for any dogs including pit bulls, in the name of saving the dog.
