John Andrews Posted May 13, 2014 Author Posted May 13, 2014 It's simple in my book. 6 horsepower means 6 HORSEPOWER period. If no one else care than thats fine. I on the other hand do care. And I will report every one I see. I obey the law and expect others to do the same. I will never put a boat there with more than 6 horsepower. Why, BECAUSE IT'S THE LAW!!!!!!!!! Not 7,8,9,10 200 or 225. Dont like my stance on this. fine. Don't want to get involved, fine. Rather bury your head in the sand and pretend it is not happening, fine by me. I on the other hand will not. I really dont care how many people I hack off along the way. To each their own I guess. This post was never intended to start a verbal "poo flinging monkey hissy fit" Fact is It was ME simply stating what I will do from that moment forward. ME alone, like it or not, either way, it dont matter. It's a choice I made, and one I stand behind.
fishinwrench Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 You go girl ! Matters not to me because I have boats fit for any size/type of water that I want to fish, but I do understand and support guys that only own one boat and attempt to make do (In this case by Idling OR using only the trolling motor). What burns my a$$ is people that go all "letter of the law" neighborhood watch about SOME things, and then crack a beer on the tailgate at Bennett Spring state park or something similar. I could certainly understand if they were doing hole-shots between kayaks but I just don't see the harm in someone trolling across lake Spfld with a cold 225 hanging on the back of the boat.....or even idling for that matter. That's all I'm sayin'.
Flysmallie Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 A long time ago you were allowed to put a big boat on that lake and only use the trolling motor. But of course that wasn't good enough for some and we lost that option. Â Â

I agree with you one hundred percent. spfld lake has a hp restriction of 6hp, why is that so hard for people to understand. if you have a boat with an engine larger than 6hp, take it somewhere else.
Goggle-Eyed Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 to the OP, were they running the "oversize" motors on the lake or were they using their trolling motors? I understand what the law says just curious what you observed...
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 The fire department runs there 40 hp jets down there for practice. Be sure to take a pic of them too

So you really want someone to have to REMOVE the engine rather than just NOT USE IT? C'mon man...don't be a jackass. This sounds like a jealousy thing going on here, does it not?

And been on lakes that are trolling motor where there is a storm brewing and started the big motor to get off safely.

I'm all for safety and everything but this is probably why your not allowed to have them on the first place. I know you said you only fire up the big motor if a storm is brewing/for safety purposes but doesn't that put you at an advantage that people are following the rules don't get? Plus while your trying to be safe and get off the water, others aren't afforded that luxury and you could be endangering them even more. I personally don't care if you put on with a big motor as long as you don't use it under any circumstance. If you're going to plan ahead like everyone else, and don't put your boat in if you'll be tempted to use your big motor for some reason.
REDSOXWSCHAMP Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 It's aggrevating to see someone in a boat with a big engine on it running down lake springfield, while the rest of us are in a canoe, kayak, or some other little boat. There are 5 sizeable lakes less than an hour away from springfield, why would you need to put your glitter rocket on a small shallow lake with a 6hp restriction?
