I've never made those tweaks work successfully. Any more I just buy a dozen and pretend they are lottery tickets.

Anyone ever use the straight red fin instead of the jointed?

Short answer, yes. Don't think there is a "this one is better" answer.

Bought this one at hook line and sinker in Rogers a month or so back. I believe they told me a local guy makes them. They had several in their reel case. Custom painted with a circuit board bill and super sharp hooks. Runs perfect!!!!! They sell them for $30, but well worth it since I don't have to mess with tuning, and I've already caught my moneys worth with it. Just another option for you guys instead of having a pile of baits that don't run right.

That one goes in the extreme tweaks group. Search wake baits here and you will find pics of a few others...balsa rear sections, etc.

I'm going to politely disagree on one point with dtrs5kprs. I use both a snap and a split ring (both light wire) on my Fins. The freedom of movement it provides is far greater than any detriment. Just make sure you use only a snap (not a snap swivel) and that it is on the small side.

And I will have to try that in a few weeks.

My approach has just been to eliminate excess weight.

A loop knot would eliminate any extra weight. I don't use it on my redfins but I do on walking type topwaters. I'm sure it would work great on a fin.
