Jerry I know that the catfish and drum and a few others feed on them.

But the way Jerry A few weeks ago I was in Wally World and they had several Cherrywood HD casting rods on the rack. I picked up a 7ft 'er and the feel of it really surprised me. I bought one and took it home and it has been nothing but a pleasure to use. I bought another one 6 1/2 ft yesterday. At $23 bucks a pop they are outstanding. They have fewer guides on than that some of the other rods. To me though I think I prefer that. Both the 61/2 and 7 ft rod have 7 guides. My Ugly stick 7 ft pro Lites have 10. I have never understood the need for that many.

OP, Put a healthy bend in the rod and look at the path the line takes..... then you'll understand the need for more "properly spaced" guides.

Jerry, I agree. Zebras aren't gonna hurt any body of water in this state I don't think. They've sure spent alot of tax payer dollars on propaganda concerning them though.

Wrench------ I know how guide are suppose to work. But still i lwouod like a few less than are on some Rods. You also cannot imagine how long it takes me to get a line through those ten guides

So I'm not sure if any of you have fished it or not, but here on the other side of state line there's Melvern reservoir. It's a great multispecies fishery, especially for smallmouths. It's got 5-6 lbers in it, with GIN gin clear water. Only downside is you can't fish a shaky head, jig, tube, or anything else on the bottom without retying every other cast (and soft plastics are the ticket once the jerkbait bite dies off). The zebra mussels are rampant. So while I agree they certainly haven't hurt the fishery (they may have even improved it as you suggested, Jerry), it's frustrating deciding if you should retie every 5 minutes or risk a big one breaking you off.

IS the clear water a result of lack of rain, not outflow from Truman, or Zebra mussels? FIL has a place in the mid 40 mm and I have never seen the lake this as clear as it was this spring. I personally have not seen any evidence of zebra mussels in the mid lake area.

Truman outflow is bot Clear. I am a bit concerned myself about this clear water. But I do not think it is Zebra mussels. Lack of rain more than likely. especially in the gravois arm area. I will be checking on the zebras next week if I go vertical jigging with my spoons for catfish since I bounce them off the bottom and will snag zebras if they are there.

So what is your concern about the clear water? I would understand the concern if it was Zebra Mussels, what is it that is concerning you?

I haven't seen any of the large snails on this end of the lake either...

the MDC had something about a infestation in Warfrats area. that was sometime ago. I am just wondering about it

As far as the super clearwater here in the Gravois it is starting to cloud up a bit. I am pretty sure it is more drought related than anything else. the gravois Arm mis not getting the rain the rest of the lake. Thats what I feel. what are you doing tryimg to cross examine me are looking for trouble.

LOL, Not trying to cross examine you... Sorry if it came across like that, sometimes typed words don't come out quite right... I was just trying to figure out if you knew of something else going on...
