BilletHead Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Hummingbirds! A couple of weeks ago we were going through almost a gallon of sugar water a day. It has slowed down a bunch since they are nesting now. When they raise there youngsters and bring them in it will be crazy again through Fall. They will drink well over a gallon a day. We went through over 50 lbs. of sugar last year and I think we will top that this year. We have four feeders out now and will have eight before it is over with. Here are a few shots from two weeks ago. I accidentally deleted the best picture of one flying upside down, BilletHead "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" Ham Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 They're not always friendly with each other around feeders like that. It's very interesting the noises they make and the dive bomb runs they make at each other. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

tho1mas Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 In Nixa this year the most at one time is three. What mixture of sugar/water are you using 3/1 ? Two feeders out.
Justin Spencer Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Justin mabe you guys could plant a butterfly and humming bird Garden full of the flowering plants to pull them in for guest to observe. Our hillside by the house has lots of wildflowers as does the front of the campstore, although we need to refresh some as a few have died off over the last few years. I love seeing the hummingbirds on flowers, they often come visit inside the store if the door is propped open.
