Pepe Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 It looks like I will get a few hours to fish out of SK in the next couple days. I figure to work when it storms and play when it doesn't. My son, who loves to fish, is bringing his girlfriend after work on Friday, who has never caught a fish, so is not very confident or enthusiastic. My son REALLY wants to get her bit. Frankly, I think he wants to marry her and hopes they can enjoy this as much as his mother & I do. What do you think? Ned Rig? Fluke? Spinnerbaits in the wind? Ill need to get home for a Sunday commitment so time will be short They are both fairly recently discharged veterans who saw more than any of us should. War brought them together and I hope fishing can help them get that out of their system. If she can fly, she should be able to handle a bait caster,I'm thinking. Feel free to pm me if you have some thoughts
dtrs5kprs Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 I would get on some gravel close to spawn places, maybe even still in them, and fish the Ned or a split shot. Bank out to 25'. No play there, I would move out to similar stuff on the lake or on the way to it. Same baits, maybe with a tube or grub added in (but not necessarily needed). Little brush might be a plus, but not a deal killer if not present. Know for a fact they are still all over the Ned. All over it. Should be for quite a while. It is hard to find something better for someone new to fishing. Split shot maybe, but it is harder to cast. Hard to say on the baitcaster. Would probably not hand her one with a redfin tied on to start. Maybe a football or swing head. Redfins work well, maybe better, on a big spinning rod with 30# power pro straight to the ring or snap.
fishinwrench Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 I hear that a Ned rig is the best way to hook a non-fisher, and diamonds in the tacklebox help immunize against the future divorce that results in the loss of dual console bass boats .....but it all remains to be seen.
Flysmallie Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 He just needs to remember that she doesn't have to like fishing for them to be happy. Â Â
Old plug Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Yeah tell him to use conventional bass lures whatever they suggest on here. Dave I think your about to loose it. I think I seen somethinng you posted about prayer ended with the words "Ned Nation".
Old plug Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 FINS------ That is so awful true. If she learns to love the area first the fishing MIGHT come later. If it does not find something else that can bind you and you can can still fish. I have been on LOZ over 20 years. My wife has not fish more than 1 or 2 times. But we share through other things. Our large ornamental garden. And Some birdhouses we have made together over the years for people that stretch from California to Germany that I knows of. They are more art work than birdhouses. NO we do not sell them. We did years ago at crafts fairs under the named or Ozarkian Creations/ Bird town USA. But no more. The sharing of projects is whats important even if you fuss over the project at hand. I Know it can work. we will be married 50 yrs a week from friday. DANGER CLOSE------ For some reason I got the gut feeling he is bringing her down to either tell you they are getting married or else he is going to pop the question there. If he does I got only one thing to say. Hope he keeps his love of fishing in check if she is not big on fishing. There can be a lot of trouble when you spend a fortune on fishing tackle and boats etc. I am sure it is the base of many marriage breakups. 90% of this high priced stuff is nothing more than commercialization.

I think I seen somethinng you posted about prayer ended with the words "Ned Nation". I did, and meant it sincerely. Stacey and Ned are good friends, and Stacey has been fishing the little rig and contributing info to Ned's stories for years. Even showed it on an episode of Bass Pros (2011 dvd). Reading one of those articles is what convinced me to put a few in the boat in 2011. Ned is also a cancer survivor himself. There are folks using the little deal from TX to West Virginia, and lots of them. We were actually late to the party around here.
Champ188 Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Congrats on 50 years, OldPlug. Hope you guys enjoy many more.
Old plug Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 A Lot of us are cancer survivors Dave. If it is really bad I just hope he does bot have to drag on and on. I have already made up my mind. If mine shows up somewhere else I am going to choose to check out. I am tired of all the surgery. In a few week or less my fishing season is going to end for the year. I am going to have a knee replacement Revision. In other words replace the replacement. this will be my 12 th surgery and that is enought for anyones lifetime.
