Flysmallie Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Almost as sad to see the blame game play out. It's always worse to see the blame game. Stupid really. It's the law you know, underage drinking. It's not something that people go to jail for until they are operating a boat or car, etc. Anyone suspected of driving under the influence should be arrested. That's the way laws work, you break them, you get in trouble. It's real simple. Underage drinking is not a right that you have because a lot of people do it. That's ignorance. Yes you are correct that if he didn't arrest him then he might still be alive or possibly he could have ran through the middle of another boat and a whole bunch of people could have died. And then you would be complaining about the Water Patrol not doing their job. So which is it? Should they be out there patrolling or not?

Chief Grey Bear Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 This could of easily been avoided with a Type I life jacket. I can understand not securing a person onboard in the event of capsizing a boat. But tying their hands without enough floatation is inexcusable. The water patrol needs to change their floatation standards. You're exactly right it could have all been avoided. By not drinking and operating a boat. fishinwrench Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Of course there is THAT side of the coin, BUT..... This area promotes partying 100%. No that's not quite accurate... make that 110% ! They promote it to the point that even I who has lived here and know the drill, would expect a certain degree of leniency. And it's worse than a simple Speed Trap type entrapment thing because the arrests and accompanying charges will severely alter your life. Being totally shitfaced, running over bouys, and being obviously too wasted is one thing, but honestly that is a rare occurance so the authorities go to nit-picking any revenue generating infraction they can root out and then spin it into a severe crime. It's a dirty rotten way to operate, regardless. If you want to look at it from a statistical standpoint since Memorial day weekend..... the most dangerous situation on this lake would be riding in a Donzi with a trained officer.

Bird Watcher Posted June 4, 2014 Author Posted June 4, 2014 I've been told that Missouri is one of the few states that requires probable cause to pull a boat over on the water. I don't know of that is true or not.
fishinwrench Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Not if you sat your a$$ down like you had been told. Was he told to stay seated until instructed to stand? After all, the driver is STANDING!
Wayne SW/MO Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 I'm sure he wasn't the first person the patrolmen had handcuffed and hauled in. There has to be something different here. Does anyone know what kind of life vest was used? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
