Members rs00765605 Posted July 7, 2014 Members Posted July 7, 2014 I lost my brand new Tempest last night, not sure why. I run a Yamaha and had the cotter pin in the nut, but anyway, it fell off. I have a pretty good reference point, as it came off as I was stopped and it was about 10 yards from a buoy. I think I may have even found it on my side imaging, but not positive. It's on a flat in about 40' of water. If anyone dives down that way, feel free to PM me on here and I'll make it worth your while to retrieve it.
bfishn Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 ... it came off as I was stopped... ??????? I can't dance like I used to.
motoman Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 What about some of those giant, unholy, rare-earth super magnets rigged to some type of line and dropped down? - I know it's stainless and not as receptive to magnetism; but it still may be worth a shot? Then maybe if the magnet doesn't grab it, find some big crazy saltwater trebles or something to try and drag over it and snag the hub area. - I have some 1/8" diameter rare earth magnets I just tried on my stainless Fury prop; and they were like stink on grandma! I would imagine those larger ones would grab it with ease? - (Just thinking out loud here)
magicwormman Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 You might want to call Joe McCord at 417-230-1605. He runs the dive shop at Indian point. I bet he would charge you way less than the cost of a replacement.
Old plug Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 I bet the dive will cost you more than buying a new prop.

jeb Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 40' is a kind of deep, not because of the depth, per se, but water temp and visibility are problems. If the thermocline has setup in that area, which it sure should have by now, it will require at least a full length neoprene suit to deal with the much colder water down there. And it's usually very silty/turbid below the thermocline, so it'd have to be found running search grids and feeling along by hands. I've done that a few times, but not that deep. As a diver, I don't like being below the thermocline blind searching. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
Champ188 Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Your insurance deductible might be cheaper and easier than hiring a diver, who is no guarantee to find it.
Members rs00765605 Posted July 8, 2014 Author Members Posted July 8, 2014 I loaned my side imaging unit to a guy who was going down there Monday, he went to the spot I had marked and found it on an underwater camera, so I have a positive location. Indian Point said they could go get it, but never said how much $$ and never called me back.
Members rs00765605 Posted July 8, 2014 Author Members Posted July 8, 2014 As soon as I said that, Indian Point called me back. They said no problem and are charging me $85 to get it.
