The solution is pretty easy. Don't leave your high priced items on the dock. And secure what you can't move. Once the source dries up they will go someplace else.

Caving in to those who are too lazy to work for things is not a long term solution...The point is if you own something it should not have to be hid to keep trash from taking it. If those who are caught stealing faced deadly repercussions for their actions the problem just might disappear.

Well if you expect this justice system to solve all that then you are stuck in fantasy land. Shooting somebody isn't going to solve anything. You think they are lazy for being a thief, I think you are lazy for not protecting your equipment. You want the problem to go away then you remove the source. It's common sense. But you go ahead and kill somebody for a rod and reel tough guy. That will teach them.

No punishment for a thief? It's your own fault if something is stolen from you? No wonder society is a such. Glad the individual in Springfield who had his house broke into the other day defended himself and his family, probably his fault the broke into his locked home.

I never said no punishment. I just don't think the best solution is for everybody to start shooting people wondering around docks at night. That will lead down a bad road. Breaking into someone's home is a lot different than stealing crap off a dock. Go ahead and break into my house and see how long you are still breathing. One things for sure, you will not leave alive. But there is a huge difference in a house and a dock.

And yes if you leave your belongings laying about then you are partly responsible. Do you leave your TV on your front porch at night?

Mitch f nailed it in one. LE needs to work a lot harder on that one and we all need to elect Sheriffs, PA's and Judges who will deal with problems instead of taking the easy way out and not deal with the real problem sector of our society.

I wish they would post their names and where they live after they arrest them!!!!!

I think stealing on TR would be pretty easy. the dock is usually situated in a spot away from view. People who have community docks should try to install hidden cameras then keep there mouth shut about where they are hidden.

I may be wrong, but what I replied to was locked storage being broke into...not stuff that was left out for all to take. Still who would view something in someone's boat as being fair game? I have never walked onto any dock that is not public, and I certainly do not believe that if something is left there that it is mine because it's not locked up. People stealing from docks in broad daylight will only get more brazen and start looking to the house up from the dock.

guys, it's 2014. A friend of mine's wife went into a coffee shop the other day and left her keys in the ignition. came out 5 min later and her car was gone. found it 3 days later. People are going to steal your stuff if you give them the chance to. it's just the world we live in today. It probably takes a thief about a minute to get off his boat, bust the lock on your locker and take all your stuff. It sucks to have to haul all your gear off the dock, but it sucks more to have to replace it.
