Guest Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Well, I spoke too soon. the varmint returned last night. Im going to place the trap right after it stops raining today.
Terrierman Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Good luck, and don't worry, the tarp trick has always worked for me.
Guest Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Both of my traps are set. I think they'll move tonight after the rain moved out. Let's see what happens
fishinwrench Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 I always thought that most skunks were born full grown and dead on the road, usually during February. I can count the number of them I've seen alive and on their feet in my lifetime on one hand. Sneaky and smart critters IMO. I'm putting my money on the pole cat....you'll NOT catch him that easy.

Members TTJJ Posted July 19, 2014 Members Posted July 19, 2014 go to Youtube and search for skunk and trap. there are several videos with both good and bad results dealing with skunks in traps. Be careful. I bought a ~ 6" dia PVC trap, traped a skunk in my yard, release it where MDC said was the local release area. Raised solid door, got back, and skunk walked off. I have a wire trap also, but didn't want to go the tarp route. If you are close to a MDC office, they may loan you a PVC skunk trap. I bought my PVC trap from snareshop co, with the removable back plate, makes cleaning trap easier. Skunk did not spray while in the 6" PVC trap, being hauled to release area in pickup bed, or while leaving trap.
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 When i was a kid there was a guy who had a pet one. He kept it in a cage by his house during the day and we would go by there to see it once in awhile. It had been de-glanded, or what ever you call it, but it still smelled like a skunk, just not at the eye watering level.. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Guest Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Once again, I've caught everything from coons, possums, stray cats, but never a skunk. This time is no different, my FIL told me to use strawberries. Last time I tried that, I got a 35lb coon. Then I tried cat food & caught the neighbors cat. This time I catch a gray squirrel with strawberries. Go figure.
