Ok then, I'll head over to the Spring river and fish from Spring River Oaks down to 9 mile road and I'll catch and photograph one.

What's in the Current River System? What's in Bryant Creek? Gasconade? Niangua?

Current has shadow bass. Bryant should be Ozark bass. Gasconade has northern rock bass. Niangua is probably northern as well, but something is making me think that it may have shadow bass.

Thanks Al! I have plans to fish the Current this fall. I'll push for a Gasconade trip as well.

I've never caught anything but Northern Rock bass, AKA goggle eye in the Niangua. It's been cut off from any other bodies of water since time began however and i would think if any were in there they would be obvious.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Ham,

That is an Ozark Bass. Norfork has Ozark Bass in it. The Ozark Bass in only found in the Upper White River drainage. The Black River system (current, 11 point, etc) have shadow bass.

Thanks Jeremy. Does Norfork still have Red Ear Sunfish? Suggestions of where to fish on BSL to try to get a Yelllow Perch?

Ham,

There still is a good population of redear in both Bull Shoals and Lake Norfork. We saw some slab redear during our annual spring and fall bass electrofishing samples in 2014 on Lake Norfork.

All the yellow perch that I have heard of being caught or have caught myself have cam from Peel (125 access) down to the Dam. The last reported caught that I have heard of came from the Howard Creek area.

well then, I'll have to go with natural baits fished on bottom or around brush and hope for the best in 2015.

The Shadow Bass thing got taken care of last year on the Current and again this year on the Black River system.

I'm sitting at 7 species so far. I'll make a trip to the Norfork and get a Brook Trout before too long.

Goggle eye! I've heard people call them all sort of things. They're in the niangua thick. I caught a bunch down at Capps too. I believe shadow or war mouth are just varieties of same thing. I have caught all colors and patterns in niangua just depended on where I pulled them out of. Like under a log , grass, etc.
