Duck Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 I think the Corp should put huge signs up at every boat ramp saying that boats must be prepped and READY to launch before backing down the ramps. Also all launchers must be capable of backing a trailer. I waited 5 minutes watching a fella backing his boat down the ramp at Beaver Dam and launching yesterday and thought that was bad, the next guy took 12 minutes, they had nothing in the boat, all in the back of the truck at waters edge. Best of all after the launched the boat would not start and a guide had to pull them back to the ramp. People please use some common sense. Sorry had to vent. Duck.
rps Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 I related discussion is going on in my thread "you would have to be crazy"
Dutch Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Any reputable boat dealer goes through all of the at the time of delivery even if the customer is a big boy tournament angler. Those who don't are the ones causing the problem. They just let the novices buy and go.
Quillback Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Never have understood the "I'll back my boat down the ramp and then load it" mentality.
ness Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 I've never launched a boat, but I think I could figure out that minimizing my time on the ramp while others wait is a good thing. Not sure signs or dealer training would help the folks that don't have that natural instinct to think about the impact what they do has on others. I think we're stuck with them. BTW -- this thread and all the others sure doesn't make me want to get out on one of these lakes anytime soon. Sheesh. Sounds a good way to get pist off more than anything. John
Quillback Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 The ultimate is when they back it down the ramp, pull the cowling off the motor, pull out a toolbox and start working on the motor. I've seen that at least twice in my life.
Coosa Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Nothing to do with fishing but same concept here. Trying to get fuel this morning on the way to work. One diesel pump with 2 spouts and this guy parks directly in front of the pump so I get behind him and start a line. When he's done pumping instead of moving out of the way he continues to go inside to pay, get coffee and his morning goodies then comes out and starts packing his cooler as the line behind me keeps growing. I guess some people are just born stupid.
Feathers and Fins Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 The absolute biggest pet peeve I have as far as rude goes is people using other peoples handicap sticker cars to get close parking. A few years back I watched a pair of teenagers pull up in a Handicap car with the wheelchair rack. I flagged down an officer who waited for them and gave them not only the citation but the butt chewing the deserved and to the applaud of several others. His first statement was not ( Is this car ) But SIT RIGHT HERE while I explain to you why what you did was wrong AND YOU WILL LISTEN! (Caps is where he raised his voice) https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Sac River Jim Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 its plain ole lack of consideration for others in society in general. it really drives me crazy in a grocery line when someone doesnt start partially filling out the ck ahead of time or a lil ole lady counts out her change and hands the cashier one penny at a time then whens theres not enough change in their coin purse they start digging in the over night bag they call a purse lmbo!!!!!!!
John Andrews Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 It's only going to get worse. People as a rule only are concerned with themselves. What I call the "All about me era" lauching boats, getting gas, 10 item or less check out lines with full carts, carry-on luggage the size of a great dane, etc. As. a rule I avoid people as much a possible. I get my gas at 4:30 am while heading for work or the lake. Not many people up that early. I shop for groceries very early am before the masses wake. Yeah I must deal with people, we all have to. The best thing to do is plan around the crowds as best you can.............I often use the boat ramp to launch the kayak. I put it on the rolling cart. LOAD it and wheel it to the ramp. Quickly take the cart back and gone. If a boater is there I simply use the bank to launch. As far as boaters go the launch is the least of the problems. I've seen these mental marvels. motor up over a crappie bed ( the ones in front of public fishing docks ) and fish right where people are casting. The amount of give a darn people have for their fellow man these days is a shame. Ok I ranted enough,,,,,,,,,,,,,sorry
