Quillback Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Spent a couple of hours in the morning fishing structure and docks from 10 - 30 FOW, all for one 2.5 lb. LM on a Megabug. On the way back to Big M, stopped at the end of a long roll off (where I met Duck and his team), graphed some fish in the 20-30 range and saw some top water activity. Picked up half a dozen bass on a football jig, c-rigged UV Speed Craw, and several on a Rapala BX wake bait. Unfortunately got there a little late and the bite tailed off after an hour. Picked up a couple more out of a brush pile on a bluff end on the c-rigged Speed Craw, called it a day, and was on the trailer at 12:30 PM. 10 bass total with 3 keeps. Used the Rapala BX wake bait for the first time today. I like what I saw from it. It is heavy, weighs 3/4 oz, so it casts really well and is easy to throw on a bait caster (no helicoptering). It does a good job of waking, starts waking on the end of a long cast, much easier than getting a fin or Mikey to wake. Fish seemed to like it, when they hit it, they grabbed it, didn't have much of a problem with missing fish today. But I've only fished it one day, we'll see how it does going forward. Water temp 82.

motoman Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Great report and good looking fish! - I completely forgot reading a while back that rapala bx waker is 3/4 ounce! I imagine that bad boy casts a mile. Keep us posted please on future use.:-)
Pepe Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Great report and a healthy looking fish. I'm sorry to say we won't be back for a few weeks.
jeb Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Nice looking bass, Jeff! Wish I'd been there with you. Sounds like I need to get some of the BX's. I'd throw more wake baits, but in reading here over the years where only like 1 in a 100 fins will ever work correctly, and not knowing how to determine that, I've stayed away from them. Sounds like Rapala has brougt us the easy button. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
Quillback Posted July 25, 2014 Author Posted July 25, 2014 I was impressed by the gut on that fish, if it can survive a couple of years, it's going to be a biggun.
