There was a mad scramble to find the scales when the call came over the radio about these guys thinking they might have a state record striper. lol I'm sure we'll have certified scales after what happened today. I'll have more info tomorrow.

That brings up a good question to ask here. Where around the lake would a guy take a fish to be weighed on certified scales? Not that if you caught a good fish you wouldn't drive a good ways to a set of them, but the closer the better.

Wish their was a measurement on the fish. That would help a lot also. My best guess trying to see 54lbs would be the angle of the camera throws things off. Still can't get over one arming one that far out in front of you. That guy looks to have some guns on him, but that's a heck of a package in the size of fish it looks like.

Lots of meat anyway you cut it! I feed my whole family today with that one I caught the other night and still had some left over.

Mitch, Do you know the length of your fish? Great one btw. I'm guessing the one from today is approx 42". It's laying in a 100 qt ice chest in the 2nd photo.

Im going 35 to 40 max. a 50 plus fish would need to be at least 48'' long with near 30'' girth or 50'' x 29''. its a good fish certainly.

Supper Markets or Butcher shops have scales that are suppose to be certified. Also to be a record you need the length and girth and verification by Fish and Game so I would hope someone called AGFC if they were in hopes and they took a length and girth measurement and have it witnessed, with those numbers it would be a lot easier to know for sure or within a reasonable closeness. And if Cabelas did not have a certified scale I would hope they would put the fish in a fridge, notify agfc, and then get it to a certified scale for proper record protocols to be followed so if it is a record fish it is done right as we have seen a few DQed because protocol was not followed.

Well we know who NOT to call, AGFC, if it's past their bed time....poor guy down on Bull Shoals got screwed out of 1 million bucks thanks to AGFC .

I was trying to guess at the ice chest thing. I can see it was Colman, and I was even going to give the benefit of the doubt that it was a 150qt one. That helps a lot in the determination.

I am guessing they are like me and if it was close, but not close enough, then I'd just take it on back to the house to start cleaning. No need to go any further except to brag a bit. :)

Deer are a little different. Depending on the weather I've known people to drive around for hours showing them off. Nothing wrong with being excited to show off what ya got. I for one like to see what people get.

You all got a set of scales at hls? Seems you would be in a good place to have a set.
