fishinwrench Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Spot on, ruthead. I like that quote even better.
ozark trout fisher Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Why is it so important to catch trout in the Meramec? I tend to agree. I'd be okay if they gave up on it and focused resources in places where fish could have a better chance to thrive. Rainbows would still be coming down from Maramec Spring so there would still be some trout in the river. This year has been an exception for obvious reasons, but mostly all you catch is rainbows anyway. So it would be no great loss.
joeD Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 I guess that makes sense fellas. Even though that particular stretch of the Meramec sucks in general for trout, and really sucks specifically, it is a proverbial and metaphorical hole in the ground that one can stick a dick in and get off. A hole is a hole right? You don't need trout stamps for that.
Members Fly guy Posted September 19, 2014 Members Posted September 19, 2014 I like to fish the meramec red ribbon area usually you are by yourself, or maybe only one other angler you run into. I was thinking about fishing it tomorrow but if they're gigging I will head elsewhere.
ozark trout fisher Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 I wouldn't say that stretch of the Meramec sucks. It's a fine stretch of river (especially in the cool months when the alluminum hatch isn't coming off), just not real good for trout fishing. Also JoeD...time to start thinking "should I really post this?" You might find the answer is a resounding "no."
joeD Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Probably. But I have never been accused of thinking.
Smalliebigs Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 I had to come back out of hiding for one post and then it's back to just being an observer of stupidity........JoeD please keep posting and please don't change. also if you are about to post and little voice from OTF ask you "should I really post this?".....first kill the voice in violent fashion and then post your words....let them flow baby. Please never let your opinions be sanctioned or diluted by this bunch of wannabes. You have forgot more about fishing than a lot of these biotches will ever attain.....your perspective is appreciated I can't wait to share some Bourbon with you on the river sometime soon back to just watching...see ya

Not really cool for this forum IMO. JoeD, just edit you're post man and there's no problem here. Really. Also I think he figures out every stretch of river that I like so he can post about how much it sucks. At a certain point that does begin to annoy me, though maybe I should be grateful because he's scaring people away from my fishing holes..
stlfisher Posted September 24, 2014 Author Posted September 24, 2014 The was I look at the red ribbon area is the way I look at most white and red ribbon trout areas in our state...stretches of tweener water that is really not ideal for any fish species, but when conditions are right can produce good trout fishing. To me, it will always be borderline, but it is more about MDC maximizing the resources they have. Better to have mediocre fishing than no fishing. It is worth it IMO.
