moguy1973 Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 4 SEC teams in the top 5. Sets a record. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Ham Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 LSU will lose to all four of those SEC teams in the Top 5 and people with want to burn the stadium down. LSU is already bowl eligible for the 15 th year in a row, but that's not good enough anymore. 4 SEC teams in the top 5. Sets a record. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. stlfisher Posted October 20, 2014 Author Posted October 20, 2014 Play calling was...weird. It was obvious Florida's defense was too good and too fast to allow the outside runs, while inside runs were getting decent yardage...so they ran it outside the whole second half. Mauk was actually trying to stay in the pocket, but the receivers were usually covered well. He at least didn't run backward when he scrambled. But where were the short slants and other quick-developing pass routes to allow him to get the ball out quickly? And how many times do you have to run wide receiver screens before noticing that they aren't working, or call fades at the goal line? And the either calling or changing the play at the line of scrimmage EVERY play...which was part of the reason for some of the delay of game penalties, and didn't work, because FL knew it was going to happen and usually changed their defensive alignment after the play was finally called. Maybe they ought to just huddle, call the play, step up to the line, and run it...let the defense adapt or not adapt to what is called. Let Mauk just play instead of trying to think for a while. Pinkel did state after the game that they pretty much were ultraconservative on offense especially the second half. They only called two pass plays after halftime. I am not sure if I agree with that philosophy, but it was clear Florida wasn't going to score so I guess they felt why risk it. You know it's a strange game when the line looks like this Score: 42-13 First downs: 7-17 Total offensive yards: 119-283 Passing: 20-148 Rushing: 99-135 Penalties: 11/74-3/39 Possession: 26:01-39:59 Then this last one explains things. Turnovers: 1-6 Yes, absolutely weird...That is something that won't be seen like ever...
Feathers and Fins Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 I just re-read this thread and it reinforces why I love College Football. you never can predict it and always exciting. Who would have thought Arkansas would shut out LSU and Ole Miss, Or Mizz would be in control of their own destiny or Tenn coming on like they have or the Game Cocks in such miserable defense. Wow. I am more sure of this playoff stuff and not liking it, strength of schedule being the primary supposed " premise" Yet who has FL State really played and at that they have looked very bad the last few games where TCU has looked great, Miss St ok they should be there but Bama just hasn't looked like Bama or felt like they are champs. My pics for who it should be is #1 Miss St #2 TCU #3 Ohio st #4 Alabama Those 4 IMO have the best record based on strength of schedule and should be in it. I still think an 8 team playoff should be how it is and to that I give #5 Baylor #6 Georgia #7 Florida St #8 Oregon https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
ness Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Yeah, 8 would be better and 16 would be even more better. There are enough bowl games to do that, and still keep most everybody happy. John
Feathers and Fins Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Ness I would love it to be 12 Teams. Top two out of the playoffs go to the NC Runner Ups get the Rose Bowl Next two get the Cotton Next two the Sugar and finally the Fiesta Bowl Then the top 5 bowls would have the Top 10 teams last two teams get a bowl invite someplace and no bowl invites are issued till the playoffs are done. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Wayne SW/MO Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Ole Miss??? Do you mean Miss State? AsIde from that your pick makes more sense than most. If you look at Alabama's record and take into account their close games, they don't stad out any better than several other teams, maybe not as well. think the commitee is worse than the computer. My thoughts are the winners of the top 5 conferences, 2 wild cards from the computer rankings, and one minor FBS team determined by a playoff. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Feathers and Fins Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Yes I meant St it was early lol https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Feathers and Fins Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 THE BCS system did not work.... a Committee will not work..... the ONLY way to ever get to 1 national champion is a Playoff system and its very easily done. But the money will never allow it as its the Old System Boys still in charge... Maybe one day but not for 10 to 15 years at least. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Al Agnew Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 I just don't know what would be the best solution. I'm not a fan of having a 16 team play-off. For one thing, it just means too many games for supposedly college students. For another thing, from about number 10 on down, there's no way those teams deserve to be in a tournament for the national champion. I still think that an 8 team play-off is workable, with the conference champions of the big five conferences being automatic qualifiers, but I just don't know what would be the best way to pick the other three teams.
