I'm of the 'mix it up until you get a strike' school of thought. FWIW, the last time I fished a Torpedo, they wanted it not too fast, not too slow. You know -- just right.

one of the best prop type top waters that i am not for sure they even make anymore is a hoodler. i still have some and still use them when i have the right opportunity. there are lots of ways to work them, but mike sowders and i use to throw them out and crank them in. they will dive under the water and wave around and then surface making a splash andbuzz from the blade, and go under again. about the third time that baby comes to the surface,BAM!!!. try it sometime.

The Boy Howdy sets with the back low after it is pulled. I like it better than any other prop I have used. Short jerks is what I normally do unless I am in surfacing fish.

We are talking about lures that cost more than 30 cents here so you probably just need to butt the hell out.
