NIANGUA RIVER RANCH

Recommended Posts

I took out there a couple of times way back when it was a private resort but a fee access.

I don't blame you for posting the property against trespass, but would have a big problem if you thought you could keep people off the gravel bars on your five mile section.

Nobody I know has ever been approached or ran off from gravel bars between Prosperine and Leadmine but plenty of seemingly intimidating signage on the gravel bars is very common through there and it is obviously directed towards fishermen since all the party floating ends above there.

I still stop at those "posted" places if I want to wade and fish, have lunch, or just stretch my legs, but it does make me nervous so I tend not to linger even though there's times that I'd like to just chill awhile without having to keep looking over my shoulder and worrying about a potential confrontation with some gunslinging Niangua Land & Cattle employee that THINKS he is doing the right thing.

The part that bugs me the worst is that MDC agents know that those ("Private Property-Don't Stop Here") signs are all along there but they choose to just let it slide knowing full well that it is an intimidating infringement to people who are within their rights to be there....and to stop and fish/wade/camp if they darn well please.

But instead of contacting those landowners and "advising them" the agents are just gonna let the situation go uncorrected until somebody has a confrontation with the wrong-somebody-else.

What is it that those people down in that neighborhood are worried about ?

Some fisherman trudging 2-4 miles thru the briars to steal something off their land ? Ya think they might load one of your cows into a canoe or Jon boat and make off with it?

Give me a freakin break !

They bought land along a stretch of navigable public waterway and are attempting to intimidate the public via signage (or "graffiti", depending on how you look at it) on gravel bars that implys that river users have no right to be there.

It's wrong and I cop an attitude every time I see it. Those signs are nothing but obnoxious misplaced litter and I really wish the people who put them there would kindly clean them up.

Last trip I took we were set up below mountain creek access on a gravel bar. We were wade fishing and a local pulls up on a 4 wheeler, with shotgun in hand and says "you all know where you are?" Me and my buddy tell him we know exactly where we were but thanks for checking on us. He stared at us for about 15 minutes but finally left.... really bizarre.

The same trip I also met the owner of the old Oldhams property as he was driving his 4 wheeler around his property. He went out of his way to stop and talk to me for almost 30 minutes. Great guy who told me how much he loves that section of river and how he NEVER has problems with floaters or fisherman.

Overall my experiences have been great on that section. I do however hate all the landowners who think they have precedence over the law. Especially, I think it's Niangua Cattle Company who has signs posted there is no camping for the next 5 miles. Bullshit, I'll excercise my rights when I can.

Thanks for trying to block off all enjoyment of anyone who floats the Niangua. Let me guess, since you are a new new owner of the property, that you are from a long ways off like the East or West Coast and moved here because you hated where you were and now you wanna change things to make it feel like home again. Thanks.

Like some of the rest of you , the way this post reads kind of makes me think that there are other alternative motives besides an introduction. Sounds more to me like a "non-confrontational" way to let a desired group of fishermen know that they are unwelcome on that 5 mile stretch of riverbank. Good luck with that...I know my rights and aren't afraid to stand by them when confronted. I float the Niangua a lot after the summer season is over , and most of those are overnighters. Like most of the guys on here I leave the river better than I found it and don't trespass on others property or rights...I expect the same of ignorant landowners that pretend to own the entire river. I refuse to let anyone take away a right that is inherently mine. I've camped on the riverbank within sight of the no trespassing signs from the Niangua Land and Cattle Company (never been approached by anyone) and won't think twice about camping on a gravel bar in front of your place either. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and hope that your intentions just came out wrong in your post , if not I'll probably be seeing you on the riverbank at some point...lucky , lucky you!!

Sorry if I come off as an a-hole on this subject...but the truth is , I AM. (and if we don't stand up for what rights we do have ,eventually they'll go by the wayside as others have. History doesn't lie...)

Thie guy is from Texas, has owned for a couple years, don't believe he lives here, His ranch foreman is L.B. nice guy, know him and his family along time, there are river people. He has to do what he is told....they own close to 6 miles of river, part of it makes a big bend in it in which it makes it look longer.
