mic Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 I was wondering this weekend as I was fly fishing for gills what a type of fly I could design for spin fishing that was built specifically to tip with worms. Any ideas?
Flysmallie Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 It's called easy fun. Once you tip anything with a worm the gills could care less, all they know is that the worm is what they are after. They lose their minds when they see a worm. So really anything that you create to tip with a worm is going to be successful.
jdmidwest Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 The part about a fly designed for spin casting then adding bait tends to be a stumper. To spin cast, you need additional weight to cast right. Then to add a worm as a kicker and keep it on and not cast it off? Maybe a woolie bugger with a spinner in front and a bait hook trailer! Lancer09 Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 The worm will muck up any material you have on the hook. If you want the weight to cast go with a long streamer hook. Big db eyes and some dubbing figure 8 wraps. Otherwise just use a jig hook.
fishinwrench Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 You don't have to fiddle with live bait, just superglue one of these to a 1/64oz. trout sized jighead and watch the gills go completely batshit over it. http://www.southernpro.com/TW.cfm One color, Black, is all you need. You can put a soft hackle collar on it if you just gotta tinker....but it's far from necessary.
Members Corky 69 Posted September 3, 2014 Members Posted September 3, 2014 I think you need to use either a fly by it self or bait by its self, no purpose using a fly tipped with bait. They do make a weighted float that makes it easy to cast light flies or bait with a spinning rod. Almost any fly with rubber legs will work. I like to use black with white legs or black and yellow with white legs.
