David Unnerstall Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Is this knot called something else? http://www.fieldandstream.com/photos/gallery/fishing/bass/where-fish/2009/02/strongest-fishing-knots I lost a fish, yesterday, and I believe the palomar knot I tied came undone (the end was in a series of loops). I had an incident with a circular saw a few years back and the two fingers of my right hand, basically, are sticks. But I can tie this San Diego knot easily enough if I keep each first finger in the loops.
Feathers and Fins Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Only time I have used it is for offshore fishing, its a good knot but I still prefer improved clinch. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
kjackson Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 I use it a lot, and I think it is the strongest knot I tie.
David Unnerstall Posted September 7, 2014 Author Posted September 7, 2014 My buddy Bob told me he uses the "improved clinch." That appears to be a palomar knot with an extra granny.
ness Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Improved clich is a regular clinch with the tag end run back through the loop. Never tried the San Diego. Good ol' improved clinch and palomar for me. John
Dutch Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 The Pitzen or 16-20 is the knot that I use. It is similar to the San Diego Jam. It will hold on braid, fluro or mono. It is the only knot I use and I can even tie it with gloves on. I tie it with 5 wraps. http://videofishingknots.com/pitzen-knot.html
Mitch f Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Uni knot is all I use "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Mitch f Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Shoelaces too? Good Point.... actually, what do you call a shoe lace knot? a bow knot? "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
ness Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I looked that one up, Mitch. I actually use it to tie up the loose ends of tent cords, canoe ropes, whatever. I pull it the opposite direction from how it's used as a fishing knot. Probably got several names for that one. John
