fishinwrench Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 Cool. But THIS... Every once in awhile when cruising at 5000 - 5500 rpms, I get the warning alarm, engine slows to an idle. I can turn it off then back on and it runs fine. is not an overheat scenario. As turning it off then restarting immediately is not allowing the engine to cool enough to reset the heat sensor.
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 Mine did that last month, it sucked up a whole bunch of debris and clogged the thermo so it wasnt wasnt opening or shutting properly
stinger160 Posted May 4, 2015 Author Posted May 4, 2015 Not sure on the reset issue but in two trips no warning alarm, seems to be working fine now. The service guy said the thermostat was sticking but not all the time, that appears to be why the alarm only went off occasionally.
PAT92B Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Yep sounds like a thermostat issue to me had the same issue a few years back sucked a bunch of stuff up out on the river then the motor would sound a alarm at full throttle then shut itself down but would start right up and only run just above idle which made for a long ride back to the boat ramp. I just got back from Louisiana my cousin just bought a new boat that we used to fish for redfish. While motoring through some really shallow water his motor started over heating after clearing the intake it was pissin fine the motor ran fine the rest of the trip. when we got home he took it out when running at full throttle the motor would start to cut out and the check engine light would come on. He took it to get it looked at and it was the thermostat.
stinger160 Posted May 5, 2015 Author Posted May 5, 2015 Hope this topic might help a few others with one of those maddening intermittent problems.
fishinwrench Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Good grief ! LOL yep that'll do it. Have you been using your outboard as a weedeater?
stinger160 Posted May 6, 2015 Author Posted May 6, 2015 That is really ugly. The service guy showed me mine and it was corroded quite a bit but nothing like the one above.
