Quillback Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 One heck of a foggy morning, and cold - truck thermometer said 47. And there I was in my shorts and hoodie, it was a tad cool, but I survived. Because od the fog, I couldn't get where I wanted to go, so did some drop shotting off Viney, caught a few short spots doing that, and finally the fog cleared and I was able to go down lake a ways to where the fish were thick last Friday. Not nearly as many in that spot, caught 7 or eight decent spots on the Drop shot in 15-30 FOW. Might have been a keeper or two in there, I just eyeball them and make an estimate as they are all going back. Very little top water activity so no top water fish for me today. Fished a jig on 45 degree chunk rock banks and bluffs - they've shown up on that stuff, picked up mostly spots doing that and one nice 2.5 lb. LM. Boated a little north of 20 bass today. Drop shot spot that came on the Motor Oil Finesse worm: Jig eating spot off a chunk rock bank: Jig eating LM off the same bank:
Champ188 Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Good job, sir. Do you have that LM named yet? I believe you've caught that fellow before.
fishingaddiction Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Glad it warmed up quickly today since you forgot your long pants I don't understand why the TW bite is not better. I have not had a TW bite the last few times I have been out. Can't even get bit from fish chasing on the surface engulfing a mouth full of shad. Have tried walking, popping, and buzz baits with no action. What was your best depth on the jig fish? Good fishing, as 20 bass to the boat is a great day. Born to Fish. Forced to Work.
abkeenan Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 I will be down for a short trip fishing just Saturday and some on Sunday. I wanted to get in on the buzzbait/topwater bite I was hearing about the last 2 weeks or so but seems that might have already dried up and the window has closed. Looks like the old jig + trailer standby will get the call to arms this weekend. Well, that and the spoon.

You can probably get some on it early and late.

I was throwing into 5 feet and working it back. Most were fairly shallow, had a few in 10-15 FOW.
Guest Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 that's a good looking jig, do you want to elaborate? I haven't seen that color skirt but it matches the hatch. Who makes that jig trailer?

Try throwing a soft jerk bait to the chasers. Throw past them a little and jerk that thing along the top real fast (think skipping it on the surface) until you get into the surface action and then kill it and let it sink. Not gonna swear it will work now but has been the hot ticket some times for me.
