Bill Babler Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Have they released the fish from the last one yet ? Very. very good question. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
denjac Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Just in oil for 2 or 3 days of hard to moderate running, you if you are really watching what you are spending will be a 50 bucks just for the oil if you are using name brand. As tight as my wife's purse strings are, I don't believe she could hold in under $500.00. Oil?? Who uses oil? I am confused by your statement sir. Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. Members triangler Posted October 10, 2014 Members Posted October 10, 2014 It never ceases to amaze. Those on message boards discouraging others from fishing a tournament because of the lack of anglers fishing the tournament and in turn to the lack of payback. It is possible that the lack of participation is partially due to the number of people doing this? Probably not, that would assume that people on message boards have some influence. They don't. More likely the economic downturn and it's effect on small business owners ( the bulk of those that fished regional tournaments) is to blame for the lower numbers. But as the all knowing, all powerful old guard of everything fishing it is important that you get out there and do whatever you can to destroy a tournament organization trying to attract new anglers. Rave on! About the days when you used to fish and how you only broke even on by winning $20k in an 8 tournament series (that must of been a lot of cold cuts and oil at $2500 per derby...) Beat down! Those wanting to try a new format, it doesn't fit what you think is right and true about fishing. Enlighten! The young tell them it's not worth it, stay home, don't fish, don't enjoy competing in a sport they love. Eventually, the good old days you rave about will return....... I'm sure you know best sitting in the glow of your computer screen at home vs. fishing competitively at any level. Enlighten us all with your wisdom and save us from the error of our ways..... While we build the monuments you so richly deserve.... We are not worthy of your fishing message board greatness
denjac Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I didn't see anybody discouraging anybody. Just telling it like it is. Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. For a nation to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle." ~ Winston Churchill ~
fishinwrench Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Oh for crying out loud. Shut up and tell us why those fish were held in quarantine and when they will be released back into the lake. Then you can go drink another Redbull.
ozarksfishin Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I don't think Bill was trying to discourage anyone from fishing any tournament. He is simply letting people know what to expect from any tournament circuit. None of the locals fish tournaments to make money, if you do you are kidding yourself OAF Contributor Phillip Stone http://ozarksfishin.com
Quillback Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I want to know where those monuments are being built.
Alex Heitman Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 If you fish to make money you better be one hell of an angler and have a lot of time on your hands because that is what it takes. You have to fish day in and day out and be really good
Members triangler Posted October 10, 2014 Members Posted October 10, 2014 True that. Telling guys they have no chance of breaking even isn't discouraging at all........ Hope it works out for you. But unless participation is waaaaaaaay up from what it's been the past couple of years, it's gonna cost you out the wazoo to fish it with little chance of recouping any of it. For example, by the time you pay entry fee, gas, lodging, eats, lures and other assorted costs, you are going to spend a bare minimum of $500. On a 40-boat field, you will have to finish third or better to get a check for more than $500. And they only pay seven places on 40 boats, so it's not like a bunch of people are going to recoup at least part of what they spent. And 40 boats is assuming a jump in participation. This past year and the year before, they only averaged 30 boats per tournament ... and that was without all the new restrictions on who can/cannot fish. Just saying, it will take a far bigger field than they've been able to draw in order to spread around any appreciable amount of money. And I'll have to see that happen to believe it. Hope it all works out for you too.......
